In Workiva, you can automate the creation of summary prospectus reports by leveraging your statutory prospectus. This will ensure your summary prospectus remains in sync with the statutory prospectus fund content. This works by creating an additional view of your fund section and summary prospectus within the statutory prospectus document.
Preparing your fund section
In order to best leverage your statutory prospectus for automating your summary prospectuses, there are a number of document setup steps that can help ensure a smoother experience.
Ensure all fund content is contained within one section
Automatic summary prospectuses take a single section and creates a corresponding summary prospectus view. All fund content for a single summary prospectus must be located in a single section.
Content that exists within nested child sections will not be included in the generation of an automated summary prospectus. Merge any children section content into the parent section.
To do this while ensuring links are maintained correctly, follow these steps.
- Place your cursor into one of the sub-sections.
- Press CTRL + A to select all the content inside of the section
- Press CTRL + X to cut the section, ensuring links are maintained on your clipboard.
- Navigate to the fund summary section and press CTRL + V to paste the cut content.
If you are using a table of contents, you may need to relink this content through document bookmarks. Use the bookmark option to hyperlink the description into the table of contents, and use Bookmark Page Number to enter the correct page number.
Separate titles from your fund section
If there is a title in your fund section that you don't want to include in your summary prospectus, make sure to follow these steps to separate it from the rest of the fund section.
- Add a section before the summary section.
- Select the title with your cursor.
- Right-click to open the menu and click Cut or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + X.
- Paste the content into the newly added section.
By following these steps, you can ensure the XBRL on your fund summary section remains intact and document blackline changes kept to a minimum.
Note: The section name of the existing fund section will be used for the automated summary prospectus name.
Remove page breaks from (and prevent margin breaks to) your fund section
Another setting that will be helpful to review at this stage is the Insert page break before section option in your Section Properties. Ensure this setting is not enabled for any sections that you would like to generate an automatic summary prospectus for.
To prevent margin breaks from appearing in your automated summary prospectus, ensure that the margin settings in the fund summary matches the margins of the automated summary prospectus sections. See Understanding an auto summary prospectus to learn more about the composition of an automatic summary prospectus.
Note: Having a page or margin break at the start of your fund section will result in a blank page appearing in your automated summary prospectus.
Creating an auto summary prospectus
Now that your fund sections have been set up, you may begin to generate summary prospectuses. You can create a single summary prospectus or create multiple summary prospectuses at once.
To create a single auto summary prospectus:

- Select Create summary prospectus.
To create multiple summary prospectuses at once:

You can switch between the main statutory prospectus document view and summary prospectus views by selecting one through the dropdown menu.
To navigate:
- Click on the document view dropdown in the outline panel, under the toolbar buttons.

To delete any unwanted summary prospectuses:
- Navigate to the fund summary view you would like to delete.
- Right-click in the outline.
- Select Delete summary prospectus.
Note: You must unlock your prefix and suffix sections to delete your summary prospectus.
Understanding an auto summary prospectus
An automatic summary prospectus is comprised of the following sections:
Prefix - This blank section is automatically created to allow users to provide content before the fund section. Users typically populate this section with a ticker, legend, or banner information related to the fund summary.
Fund summary - This is the section that a user selected to generate an auto summary prospectus from. This section can’t be edited in the summary prospectus view and will always reflect the live content of the main statutory prospectus document.
Suffix - This section is automatically created to allow users to provide supplementary content after the fund section. Users may typically populate this section with legal, contact information, or sometimes no information at all.
Note: Prefix and fund summary sections can't be deleted in your automated summary prospectus. Suffix sections that have been deleted can’t be restored outside of the Undo action within your current session history.
Understanding a fund section view
Navigating to the fund section will show a blue banner that denotes the read-only status of the fund summary section. Users can click on the source text-link button to navigate back to the mainline document for quick editing of the fund content.
Edit prefix and suffix sections
Each automated summary prospectus has editable prefix and suffix sections before and after the fund summary section, respectively. These sections are automatically created upon the generation of an auto summary prospectus.
To edit, click into the prefix or suffix section. You can also add formatting, text styles, links, and images if needed.
If you have existing ticker, legend, or banner content for your summary prospectus, you can copy and paste that into the prefix section at this point.
Note: To ensure page numbers flow through the entire fund summary, start with inserting the page number in the Prefix section.
Edit footer and header
You can also add footer and header content into the prefix and suffix sections of your automated summary prospectus. To learn more, read Insert header and footer content.
Note: Header and footer content (such as page numbers) from your statutory prospectus does not automatically carry through to the automated summary prospectus.
Once you've finished editing your automated summary prospectus, see File a single auto summary prospectus.
