If you’d like to share your document outside of Workiva, you can export it as a Microsoft Word Document (.docx), EDGAR, PDF or XHTML.
Note: If you want to send your document to another Workiva user for review, you can use send for review.
Export as DOCX or EDGAR
To export your document as a DOCX or EDGAR file:
- From the File toolbar, click Save As .
- Under Export, choose EDGAR (.htm) or DOCX Beta (.docx).
- Select whether you’d like to export the entire document, the current section, or selected sections.
- For DOCX, open the Advanced options to select to include leader dots or table shading, embed fonts, or reduce image resolution.
- Click Export. Your download begins automatically.

Export as PDF
If you’re exporting your document as a PDF, you can further customize your export options.
- From the File toolbar, click Save As .
- Choose PDF (.pdf).
- Select whether you’d like to export the entire document, the current section, or selected sections.
- Customize your export:
- Select whether or not to include certain formatting options, like leader dots and alternate row fill.
- If you plan on printing your document, select Use CMYK Colorspace.
- To include tagging elements needed for screen readers, select Tag for Web Accessibility.
- To show all document markup in the PDF, select Include Markup.
- Select Reduce Image Resolution to downscale the pixels per inch (PPI) of your images and reduce the overall file size
- Click Export. Your download begins automatically.
Export as XHTML
To export your document as a XHTML file:
- From the File toolbar, click Save As .
- Choose XHTML (.xhtml).
- Select whether you’d like to export the entire document, the current section, or selected sections.
- For XHTML, open the Advanced options to select to export the document with editable XHTML, disable external hyperlinks, include headers and footers, or to reduce image resolution.
- Click Export. Your download begins automatically.
