Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) images allow you to maintain perfect image fidelity while keeping your file size low. Within a file, you can insert SVG files in any location that allows images to be added. In this article, you will learn about inserting and uploading an SVG image, and the SVG file limitations.
Insert an SVG image
SVG images can be insert directly into a file as an inline or floating image. Inline images will be aligned with other document content, and floating images can be freely moved and positioned on the document page.
To insert an SVG image in your file:
- Navigate to the Edit tab.
- Select Image and choose Inline or Floating.
- Choose an SVG image to add to your file and select Open.
- The SVG image is added to your file.
Upload an SVG image
You can store an SVG image in Workiva by uploading your file.
To upload an SVG image to the Files page:
- From Home, navigate to Files.
- Select Upload.
- Click Browse to choose an SVG image.
- Select which folder you want to upload this file to and click Upload.
SVG file limitations
There are file limitations when using SVG images that contain embedded text or adding SVG images to filing documents.
Embedded text
SVG files that contain embedded text can’t be added to Workiva. You must remove the embedded text or convert the text to paths prior to inserting or uploading the SVG image.
Export to PDF
To keep your SVGs' vector and convert to PDF drawing instructions, make sure to uncheck Rasterize SVGs in the advanced settings of the Export Options modal.
SEC filing documents
SVG images are not SEC-compliant. If your SEC-tagged document contains an SVG image, you will see a notification within the Document Health panel stating that this is not a supported file format in filing documents.
