Multi-National Companies Expanding to APAC
Are you a Multi-National Company (MNC) thinking about expanding your Workiva use to your teams in APAC?
If so, you’ll be happy to know that we’ve been working on making it easier for your teammates to start using all the great Workiva tools and features to help them work faster, together. As you add teammates, create workspaces and get started - there are many resources to help learn how to use the many areas of Workiva. You can find them in our Help articles, Community posts and in the Learning Hub. We have localized Help content in Chinese, Japanese and Korean!
We are constantly improving our product to ensure that teams can work seamlessly, wherever they are and in whichever language they work in.
Today, you can create and work on various documents, presentations and spreadsheets with Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters (CJK). However, there are a few things you should be aware of:
User Interface
- The Workiva user interface does not currently change by locale
- English is the language used throughout the Workiva platform, including in Workiva Notification e-mails
- We are working on a foundation that will set us up for internationalization options in the future.
Locales
- Currently, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Japanese and Korean are all available locales that you can set on your document, spreadsheet or presentation
- These include value and date formatting options
- The CJK locales all include a “beta” indicator - this is because there are still a number of improvements to be made (listed below)
- Since this beta label has been applied for locales, it has also been applied for Translation as there are still a few features we would like to add
Fonts
- A CJK font must be used when using CJK characters - the fonts should be applied to all content, including chart and table data
- You can find a list of available CJK fonts on our Supported Fonts page and you can enable these with a request to your Customer Success Manager
- Note that not all fonts are available in multiple weights
- If a CJK font in not applied to CJK characters, they may export as boxes
Importing and Exporting
- Importing to Workiva is supported, however, there will often be additional work required to match formatting from Microsoft® Word®, Powerpoint®, or Excel®
- Exporting to PDF is supported, however, exporting to Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel is not fully supported at this time and 1:1 fidelity should not be expected
Send for Review
- You can use Send for Review with documents and presentations, however, if a document name includes CJK characters, those will appear as question marks on the Workiva Notifications e-mail
Certification
- Creating and preparing your certification process is supported
- Sending and signing letters, as well as adding attachments, is supported
- Exporting the letters is not currently supported and CJK characters will currently show as boxes once exported as PDF
Evidence Viewer and Attachments
- Any CJK character added as evidence and viewed in the Evidence Viewer will appear as boxes
- This will also happen for document or spreadsheet attachments when viewed as markup
Accessing Workiva in China
- It is possible that users in China will appear to have technical difficulties when accessing Workiva
- Reach out to your Customer Success Manager or Support for the “Great Firewall of China”. This is a document you can provide for APAC IT teams to review
While we have identified these items and want to ensure teams are aware of this, it doesn’t mean that you can’t use Workvia with your APAC teams. There are still many wonderful features you can use to bring collaboration to your group, and help simplify your complex reports!
If you have any questions about bringing groups into Workiva in your APAC regions, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager for any questions. Once your teams get started, we want to hear from them too! We encourage all our users to use our Feedback & Suggestions page on the Community as they prepare reports in CJK.
