Designed Reporting - Floating Object and XBRL
Greetings Workiva Users,
We are excited to reveal a new feature to enrich your journey with Workiva: the introduction of Floating Objects! However, as we are still in the process of perfecting this aspect, there are a few limitations with floating objects working with certain capabilities that we want to ensure customers using XBRL are aware of. These limitations are connected to the interaction between Floating Content and XBRL facts.
Here's a breakdown of what is and what isn't currently supported with our Floating Objects feature when used in a document tagged with XBRL:
What's Currently Supported:
Floating Content within iXBRL Documents: The new feature allows you to utilize Floating Content within documents that are to be generated as iXBRL. This provides a greater degree of design freedom and aids in improving the visual appeal of your documents.
What's Currently Not Supported:
Tagging with an XBRL Fact: Floating Content isn't currently equipped to contain or be tagged with XBRL Facts. When an attempt is made to create a fact, the process will be disabled due to current constraints of the Floating Objects feature. The Floating Object feature that cannot be tagged with XBRL includes text boxes, tables, charts, or shapes.
Incorporation within XBRL Fact: If the content needs to be represented in an XBRL Fact (for instance: Text Block Tags), floating objects should not be used. Instead, the content should be created in inline form for the necessary tagging to be completed.
We're aware that these restrictions might have an impact on some of your operations. Rest assured, our dedicated teams are working to broaden the capabilities of the Floating Objects feature and we anticipate future support of XBRL. If you encounter any queries or require additional details about this feature, our Customer Success and Customer Support teams are ready to help.

Hi Workiva Team,
Are there any updates on the feature to XBRL tag floating objects? If no, what workaround is suggested to handle tables that covers 2/3 of the page width?
To my understanding, it is not possible to change a 2-column page with a 1/3 and 2/3 width which is needed to keep the table Inline instead of Floating.
Thank you!
0Good news! Next week we do plan to release options so users can control column widths So, you will be able to do 1/3 and 2/3 and keep the table inline very soon. Keep an eye on our release notes topic! We are also getting closer to xbrl within floating objects but that could be into Q4 sometime.
