Your Sustainability Reporting workspace includes a Data Collection spreadsheet to help curate values for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) or sustainability metrics. From this spreadsheet, you can collect values and connect them to their respective metrics in Sustainability Program.
Tip: To help streamline data collection, you can instead have assignees provide values through the Workiva Tasks portal, which focuses only the details and fields required for the task-at-hand.
Add input sheet to spreadsheet
From the Data Collection Input Sheets section, you can use sheets configured with the columns and formulas required to collect metric values. To add a new sheet to this section, use the Input Sheet Templates sheets:
-
From the outline, right-click the applicable Input Sheet Template sheet, then select Duplicate:
- To collect values with up to one dimension applied, duplicate Single Dimension Input Sheet Template.
- To collect values with multiple dimensions applied, duplicate Multiple Dimension Input Sheet Template.
Note: Multidimensional metrics are available for only some workspaces. When enabled, metrics can support up to seven custom dimensions.
- Right-click the new input sheet, select Rename, and enter its new name.
- Move the new input sheet to its position within the Data Collection Input Sheets section.
Collect metric values in input sheets
From the Data Collection Input Sheets section, connect the values' cells to their respective metrics in Sustainability Program, then collect the metric values.
Step 1. Refresh metric data
In the Source section, the Metric Data sheet includes details about the metrics in Sustainability Program. To ensure this sheet has the latest data from Sustainability Program:
- From the Connections panel, select Incoming , then click the Metric Data connection.
-
Select the year of the connection's data, then click Apply & refresh.
Step 2. Set up input sheet for value
From the Data Collection Input Sheets section, set up the input sheet to collect the metric value:
Tip: If necessary, use an Input Sheet Template to first add the value's data collection input sheet.
- From Sustainability Program, note or copy the metric's ID.
- In the Data Collection Input Sheets section, select the sheet to collect the value, then set up its row:
- In Metric code, select the metric's ID.
- Select the metric value's applicable dimensional values.
Tip: To add a new row for the value, select the row above it, then right-click and select Insert, 1 row below. To update the new row with any required formulas, select the row above it, then hover over the lower right corner of the final column until the cursor becomes a plus sign , and drag it into the new row.
Step 3. Collect metric value
The data collection input sheet includes input cells for every possible collection period for a Monthly, Quarterly, Biannual, or Annual frequency. In the input cell for the respective collection period, collect the metric value.
- In the input cell, right-click, then select Connect source to metric to connect the cell to the value's metric.
- From the metric in Sustainability Program, create a task to assign workspace members to prepare and approve the value through the data collection input sheet.
When collected in the input cell, the value automatically appears in Sustainability Program, in the metric's Values for the respective collection period.
