This article is for:
- Sustainability Reporting Advanced workspaces with Workiva AI and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) add-on enabled
Note: Workiva AI is available for any customer who signs the Workiva AI Terms of Use. Once signed and approved, Workiva AI is enabled for the organization — and all of its workspaces and users — by default. Org Admins can manage its enablement as needed, such as to restrict Workiva AI to only specific workspaces and users, or to disable it for the entire organization.
When enabled for your workspace, Workiva AI can assist as you prepare sustainability reports using the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) from the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG). For example, Workiva AI can help:
- Summarize disclosure requirements with easy-to-digest synopses
- Identify disclosures related to existing data or content
- Generate first drafts of — and iterate on — narrative responses based on collected values
Tip: To ensure meaningful responses, enter a single request that includes the necessary specifics and context — or ask Workiva AI to generate the prompt based on what you need to do! To learn more, view Tips for getting useful responses from Workiva AI.
Note: Workiva AI responses are provided for general information purposes only and do not — and are not intended to — constitute legal, accounting, tax, investment, compliance, or other professional advice and services. Responses contain AI-generated content and are provided "as is"; no representations are made that the content is error-free or up-to-date. To learn more, view the Workiva AI Terms of Use.
Summarize requirements with ESRS Intelligence
As you prepare to report using the ESRS, you can use Workiva AI and its ESRS Intelligence knowledge bases to help summarize the Standards and their disclosure requirements with easy-to-digest synopses.
- From the workspace's toolbar, click Workiva AI .
-
In Workiva AI, click Add sources, then select Add Knowledge bases and the version of ESRS to reference:
- ESRS, for the ESRS Delegated Act and corrigendum published to the Official Journal in 2024
- Revised ESRS, for the revised ESRS adopted by the European Commission (EC) in 2026
Tip: You can add both knowledge bases, such as to prompt Workiva AI to compare and contrast requirements from the different versions of ESRS.
Note: The revised ESRS apply for financial years that start on or after January 1, 2027. For early adoption, apply either the full revised ESRS or the Delegated Act of 2023 with some reliefs from the revised ESRS.
-
Enter the prompt, and click Send. For example, prompt Workiva AI to help:
- Summarize the requirements of a disclosure.
- Provide guidance on how to collect values to meet a requirement.
- Identify criteria to help determine a Standard's materiality.
Tip: For an optimal response, refer to suggested prompts for ESRS Intelligence.

Suggested prompts
For the best responses from ESRS Intelligence, enter a prompt that asks a single question and provides all necessary context, such as a role or reference file. For example:
| Goal | Suggested prompt |
|---|---|
| Use ESRS Intelligence to assess a draft report to identify missing disclosure requirements and suggest corrections. |
As a Sustainability Compliance Auditor, evaluate @[Document] and identify missing or insufficient mandatory disclosures.
Tip: To
refer to the draft report
in your prompt, click Add and select

|
| Use ESRS Intelligence to suggest applicable disclosure requirements to align with a metric in Sustainability Program, based on its name or description. |
Identify the specific Standards applicable to [metric name or description]. Provide each Standard's full title, and reference the exact paragraph number or letter to ensure accuracy for audit and compliance. |
Note: To prompt for a draft response based on specific disclosure requirements and provided content or data, use Sustainability Disclosure Agent instead of ESRS Intelligence.
