To help guide data collection or ease report index creation, you can connect metrics in Sustainability Explorer to the content in Sustainability Explorer that they align with. Similar to custom tags, these content references can help provide additional context around a metric and its values.
Note: In Sustainability Explorer, you can select which content applies to your sustainability reporting from the Properties panel.
Tip: To align metrics to a framework or standard not included in Sustainability Explorer, you can create custom Program tags based on the content.
Connect metrics to Explorer content
You can connect metrics to content from:

The metric's Related Explorer content in Sustainability Program
Tip: From Related Explorer content, you can connect a metric to multiple disclosures in Sustainability Explorer.

The content itself from Sustainability Explorer or the metric's Explore panel
Tip: From Sustainability Explorer or the Explore panel, you can connect a metric to a disclosure or content within a disclosure, such as a specific reporting requirement.
Tip: To easily align with a disclosure, bookmark it in Sustainability Explorer before you connect it to metrics.
To align a metric with Explorer content:
- From Sustainability Program, open the metric.
- In Metric details, click Add in Related Explorer content.
- Select any bookmarked or recently selected disclosures to align with, and click Apply.
- For additional disclosures, click Open Explorer, and search or browse Sustainability Explorer for the disclosures to align with. For each disclosure to align with, click Select.
After you select all disclosures to align with, click Apply. - Verify all selected disclosures appear under Recent selections, and click Save.
To connect a disclosure or an item within one — such as a specific reporting requirement — to a metric from Sustainability Explorer:
- From Sustainability Explorer, search for or browse to the disclosure or standard to connect.
- Select the content to connect:
- To connect the disclosure or standard, click Connect to program metric by its name.
- To connect a specific item within the disclosure, select it and click Connect to program metric .
- To connect the disclosure or standard, click Connect to program metric by its name.
- Select the Program and metric to connect to, and click Apply.
To easily connect content related to the metric's existing Related Explorer content, add the connection from the Explore panel:
- From Sustainability Program, open the metric.
- In Metric details, click the Related Explorer content reference related to the content to connect.
- From the Explore panel, click the content to connect in Related.
- Select the content to connect:
- To connect the disclosure or standard, click Connect to program metric at the top of the panel.
- To connect a specific item within the disclosure, such as a specific reporting requirement, select it and click Connect to program metric .
- To connect the disclosure or standard, click Connect to program metric at the top of the panel.

Select the metric from Recent, and click Apply.
Tip: To connect the content to a different metric instead, search for and select it, then click Apply.
View a metric's related Explorer content
In Metric details, the Sustainability Explorer content that metric aligns with appears in Related Explorer content. For references to any archived content — no longer if effect for reporting — click View archived to view Archived related Explorer content.
Tip: To update references to archived content to instead align with current versions, set up a roll forward of related Explorer content.
To review the guidance or disclosure that a metric aligns with, click its reference to display the content in the Explore panel. If a metric aligns with an item within a disclosure — such as a specific requirement — its applicable content appears highlighted.
Tip: To view the content in Sustainability Explorer instead of the panel, click Open in Explorer from the Explore panel.
View metrics connected to content
To help align your Program with content and standards, you can view connected metrics from Sustainability Explorer. For a list of metrics connected to content, click View connected metrics .
From the list, you can:
- Click Go to metric to open a connected metric in a new tab.
- Connect additional metrics to the content as necessary.
Remove content from metric
To remove content from a metric's Related Explorer content, click Delete .
