The Link Properties panel shows all of the source and destination links in a spreadsheet, document, or presentation. From this panel, you can generate a report and then apply filters to find specific links or link types.
Generate the Document Links report
- Open the Link Properties right panel.
- Click Generate.
- Once the report is generated, click Open.
Use the Document Links report
The Document Links report can be divided into two sections. The lefthand side contains all of the links in your document, while the righthand side provides additional context for any destination links.
On the left you'll see:
- The section where each link is located
- A shortcut to each link's location
- The link type (e.g., source, destination, etc.)
- The publishing status
Note: The Unpublished column won't display any status for destination links because a destination link can't be published -- they only receive data.
If your document contains destination links, look on the right side for additional information on their source. This includes:
- The name of the source document
- The section name where the link is located
- A shortcut to the link's source
Should I use the Document Links report or the Linked Files report?
The two reports will show most of the same information, but the Document Links report includes overridden links. There will also be slight differences between these reports in how links are displayed:
Condition | Linked Files report | Document Links report |
Source link is in a deleted file, but the file is in the trash | Displays the doc | Displays the doc |
Source link is in a deleted file, and the trash has been emptied | The source file isn't shown | The source file is listed as a "missing source" |
Source link itself is deleted | The source file isn't shown | The source file is listed as a "missing source" |
No permission to the entire source document | Displays "Unable to access document" | Displays "restricted" |
No permission to the specific section/sheet | Displays the doc | Displays "restricted" |
