Creating new (destination) links to a source with an unpublished change
Suppose I have a source link with a value of 10, and I change the value to 20 but do not publish this change.
What I have observed is that if I create a new link from this same source, the value will very briefly show up as 20 and then change to 10; i.e., it will maintain the same out-of-date value as all other destination links, until the update is published.
I've seen this consistently, but I couldn't find this behavior documented, so I just want to confirm that this is expected: i.e., any new links created from a source link with unpublished changes will show the "old" value, even though it is not actually shown in the source any more.

Happy to provide some clarity here! This is expected behavior. After editing a source link, we do require users to "publish" the change in order to update any associated destination links.
When you first create a link, Workiva automatically publishes that change. However, when you change a linked value in the source text or table, an orange indicator shows the change is unpublished. That is when you will need to click Publish in the toolbar to make any changes after creating the initial link. Clicking Publish only publishes your pending changes and does not publish link changes made by other users.
Here is some more information on Publishing Links that might be useful!
There has also been a few requests in the past for "auto-publishing". If that is something you'd be interested in, I can definitely get you added to that ticket!
0Thanks Isabel Messore. It might be helpful if the documentation called this out since it is (in my opinion) unexpected and, especially due to the visual glitch I mentioned, can be easy to miss.
Incidentally, yes, we'd be interested in tracking the auto-publishing feature request also.
