    Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for your patience on this. Apologies for my delay in seeing your question. I did a little digging with our experts and it was recommended to use Send For Review and exclude the attachments. This would limit what they can see and do in your live file. The "Hide attachments" feature only hides the visual indicators.

Let me know if you have any follow-ups or need anything else. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day!

I have a file where people only have access to a certain sheet in a spreadsheet but if they add an attachment to the sheet, everyone who had access to a sheet in the spreadsheet can see all attachments in the menu on the right. Can I make the attachment attached to a certain sheet only visible to someone with access to that specific sheet?

To make attachments visible only to users with access to a specific sheet in a spreadsheet, the visibility of attachments is aligned with the permissions of the section or sheet. Here are some key points:

    1. Attachment Visibility: Attachments inherit the permissions of the section or sheet they are attached to. If a user has access to a specific section, they can view and download attachments for that section only. Users without access to the section will not see its attachments.

    2. Filtering Attachments: You can use the filter options in the Attachments panel to display attachments for the entire spreadsheet or just the selected sheet. This helps in managing visibility based on the sheet being accessed.

    3. Permissions Management: Owners and editors can manage permissions for sheets and attachments. Advanced permissions allow granular control over who can view or edit specific sections or attachments.

And here is some Help content on these topics.
Let me know if I've missed the mark or you have any questions for me as well.

    Cheers!

    Hi Mike,

We have a very similar situation like Cheryl. We have given a lot of thought to our authorization concept and have found a very good solution from our point of view. However, due to the large number of people working on a document, we cannot divide the sections so granularly that it also corresponds to the necessary access restrictions for the attachments.
Defining the authorizations too granularly increases the administrative effort considerably. It would therefore be very helpful for us if we could also assign authorizations for attachments in order to be able to provide sensitive information in Workiva according to requirements.

I wanted to follow up on a question from Cheryl.  Is there a way to make the show/hide setting in the view tab default to hide for attachments, or hide indicators?  I attached a screenshot for where I am looking.  I am not necessarily trying to remove permissions of attachments, just want to open a document and not have the attachment labels show up as the default.

    Thank you!

    Hi Connor McCracken

Currently, I don't believe you can choose a default for the show/hide feature option. However, I can put in a feature request for our product managers to review this functionality!
