Limit comment period for a review or disable any new comments on a review
We usually send a review of our quarterly and annual SEC filings to a limited group of finance team members (the "finance team review"). Once we have addressed the finance team comments, we sent a review of the same document to a broader group of people (the "draft 1 review") that includes senior management, external auditors, and external legal consultants, as well as the finance team members. It is fairly common for finance team members to continue commenting on the finance team review version of the document even after the more refined draft 1 review has been sent. Sometime those comments are no longer relevant due to portions of the document having been refined or altered. It would be very helpful if there was a way to limit the comment period for a review, or disable any new comments on an outdated review, while still keeping the review and comment history.

Currently, Workiva does not provide a direct feature to limit the comment period for a review or disable new comments on an outdated review while keeping the review and comment history intact.Don't worry, I'll get a feature request spun up or this functionality! In the meantime, here are some related functionalities and workarounds:
- Comment Permissions: When sending a document for review, you can manage which comment threads to include or exclude. For example, you can choose to exclude comments added to the review from the live version of the file.
- Separate Reviews: To manage outdated comments, you can create a new review for the updated version of the document. This ensures that comments from the previous review do not interfere with the new review.
- Comment Management: Document owners can delete or resolve comments from previous reviews. This can help in managing outdated comments before initiating a new review.
0Hi Catherine Alqallaf ! I have another thought for a work-around, piggybacking off Isabel. If the document has a milestone marked for each review in the History panel, you could see what comments go with each review based on the times. You could also utilize the comment feature "labels" for each review.
0Hi, I appreciate the thoughts. I'm still looking for a way to stop people from making comments on an old review. Once a new review is issued, reviewers should comment only on the newest review, not old reviews. Continuing to comment on an old review not only wastes the reviewers time (they aren't looking at the current material, and they often comment on material that has already changed), but also the SEC team's time (because we have to wade through comments that are no longer relevant). Having a time limit to comment on a review is a necessity! It would be even better if they got a pop-up message when they open an old review, telling them that the comment period for the review is over (maybe even a link to the latest review for that document).
