Opening uploaded Word/Excel files within Word/Excel
回答済みHi all, the default behavior for uploaded Word or Excel files in the 'Folders' when attempting to 'Open' them is to download the file. Is there a setting that will allow it to try opening in the locally-installed Word/Excel?
Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

Hi Jeff!
Happy to help answer your question. I think I might know what's happening for ya.
In Wdesk, if you upload a Word or Excel file into a Folder, the file is still not editable, i.e. its still the same file now stored on your Workiva account which is why when you open it, it will only download, not be viewable or editable. If you wish to actually open it and start editing the file in Wdesk, you need to import the Word or Excel file. Here's some info on importing to Wdesk. If I've missed the mark on any of the above, or you have any follow-up questions for me, just let me know. Thanks as always for the question and have a great rest of your day!
0Mike,
Thanks very much for your detailed response; it's greatly appreciated. I understand what you are saying about the file not being editable. However, when we upload the files as evidence in an audit, we don't necessarily need them to be editable; they can be static and locked from changes. If editing is not a factor, and we do not want to import from Word/Excel, due to subtle incompatibilities, is there a way to have it defer to the native workstation file type associations and open in Word/Excel?
Thanks again,
Jeff
0Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. I'll dig into this a bit more with our team. To double check, are you using next gen or classic?
