Exporting Workiva Files - Don't have Permission Error Message

Hi! I am trying to export numerous documents and spreadsheets as Workiva files. I get the error message "To do this, you need permission." Is it just me, or is the error message misleading? It seems that the files causing the error are in a different folder than what I am trying to export and are linked to the ones I want to export. Shouldn't the error message say that the files are not contained in the folder I'm trying to export or something more helpful? Also, if I did have permission to those linked files, would they export? I wouldn't want them to.

    The error message "To do this, you need permission" can indeed be misleading in your scenario. Here's a breakdown of the issue:

    1. Linked Files and Permissions: If the files you are trying to export are linked to other files outside the folder you are exporting, and you lack permissions for those linked files, the export will fail. This is because Workiva requires permissions for all linked files to proceed with the export. 
     
    2. Error Message Clarity: The error message does not explicitly state that the issue is due to linked files outside the folder. It could be improved to clarify that linked files outside the selected folder are causing the issue. I'll put in a feature request for this!
     
    3. Exporting Linked Files: If you had permissions for the linked files, they would be included in the export by default. However, Workiva provides an option to exclude specific files during the export process. You can review and uncheck linked files you do not wish to include in the export.
     
    4. Workaround: To avoid exporting linked files, you can generate a Linked Files Report. This report allows you to view all linked files and selectively include or exclude them during the export process.
