PDF Documents
RespondidaHi
I don't find any PDF commands in the chain builder, but I'll ask anyway - Is it possible to create or edit PDF documents in a chain?
Essentially, we want to add a new page to an existing PDF document or alternatively create a new single page PDF document.

Any feedback on this?
0Hi Chad Weber
Creating or editing PDF documents directly within a chain is not a feature currently supported by the platform. Chains are primarily designed to automate tasks and facilitate data integration across multiple systems. They are used to pull data from sources, process it, and push it to other systems, but not for document creation or editing.
However, you can create PDF documents outside of chains using the platform's PDF creation functionality. This allows you to combine multiple files or folders into a single PDF document. You can select files from various locations such as all files, recent files, or starred files, and customize the PDF with options like including comments, hyperlinks, and adjusting the layout for spreadsheets.
If you need to automate the creation of PDF documents as part of a larger workflow, you might consider using chains to handle data processing and then manually create the PDF using the platform's PDF creation tools. This approach allows you to leverage the automation capabilities of chains while still utilizing the document creation features available in the platform.
Hope this helps! Thanks!
0Hi Chad Weber,
As Brooke mentioned, while it's not possible to edit PDF files via Chains, you can still create PDFs from existing Workiva Documents. Using the HTTP Request Connector, you can export a Document as a PDF using the Platform API Documents endpoint Initiate a Document Export. Additionally, if you needed to modify the Document prior to exporting it as a PDF, you can do so by using several endpoints available in the Prototype Platform API. Specifically the Prototype Content Rich Text and Prototype Documents APIs.
0Thanks for the feedback Brooke and Jeff - was hoping this was possible to do in a chain. Pity!
