FERC 2026 Taxonomies Now Available
On March 27, 2026 FERC announced the release of the 2026 taxonomies which are now available within the Workiva Platform and enabled on all FERC-related Workspaces. The new 2026 taxonomies are required to be used for the following FERC Form Filings due after March 26, 2026:
- 2025 Calendar Year FERC Form No. 714, and Form 60
- 2026 Quarterly FERC Form Nos. 3-Q and 6-Q; and
- 2026 Calendar Year FERC Form Nos. 1, 1F, 2, 2-A, and 6
In other words, all form types with a 2026 year of report will be required to be migrated to the 2026 taxonomy version related to the specific Form, in order to be successfully received by FERC. The only exception to this is for Forms 60 and Form 714, which must use the 2026 taxonomy version for upcoming 2025 year end filings.
Below is a list of significant updates included by FERC in the 2026 taxonomy files:
- Updated XBRL rendering and validation logic to correct various minor rendering or validation related issues reported.
- Incorporated Order No. 898 changes to the Form 60 taxonomy, including updated validations, performance optimizations, and e-form Viewer/Rendering code.
Workiva Implementation Updates Required for all Form 60 Filers:
Please note that due to the changes related to Order 898 incorporations, Form 60 templates will need to be modified in order for you to create valid XBRL data using the 2026 taxonomy. In advance of this release, Workiva teams have already outreached to known Form 60 filers and implemented these changes. As a result, Form 60 customers that have already been updated can simply migrate to the latest taxonomy version and submit to FERC per usual. If you have additional questions on this process, or feel your specific Form 60 still requires these minor modifications, please outreach to your Professional Services or Customer Success manager.
Workiva XBRL Service Considerations:
Should you have an XBRL service engagement with Workiva, your Professional Services Manager will assist in migrating your FERC Forms to the latest 2026 taxonomy versions. Should you want to migrate yourself, please refer to the following Help article for additional support on performing this migration.
As a reminder, in order to successfully file to FERC, the updated 2026 Taxonomy is required for ALL 2026 Quarterly Filings starting with 2026 Q1 periods, as well as the 2025 Annual Filing for Form 714 and 60. Any resubmissions must continue to use the original Taxonomy from the original filed form, as outlined by the FERC Taxonomy History page.
We are excited to release the latest taxonomy updates from FERC and are committed to the success of your FERC filings. Please do not hesitate to contact Workiva Customer Support, your Professional Services Manager, or post questions/comments here in the Community should you have any additional questions or concerns around this new taxonomy update.
