Footnote Formatting
CompletedI would like to add footnotes to a document. However, I do not want the line above the footnotes. I just want the numbers. Is there a way to remove the line shown in the picture?

Great news! A recent release has added some formatting improvements to footnotes in Documents. They include the ability to adjust the footnote line and are found within section or document properties:
This includes the color, weight, and style of the line, as well as to show it or now. Here's more info on the additional settings as well.
Thanks so much for your feedback and patience along the way. We couldn't have done it without you!
Hi Afi,
Welcome to the Community and thank you for reaching out! In this case, you can just highlight the line above the footnote and press the backspace key. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with!
Thanks!
0Hi Paige, sorry to jump in here again, but I am not able to highlight the line. Can you give me a tip how it is possible?
0I am also facing the same problem. I do not want the line and unable to select the line and delete.
0I'd appreciate a solution about this issue. I have faced this problem as well.
0I did some more digging on this, and so far I'm finding that that line is not currently customizable/removable. This enhancement has been requested, though at this time work is not planned. I'm happy to pass along your feedback and interest to see if we can't move the needle. We'll be in touch if this status changes but in the meantime, you're feedback here is more than welcome!
-1Hi all, do you know if this enhancement of being able to remove the footnote line has been implemented already? Thanks
1Hi Nicolas!
The option to format and/or remove the line is still being considered and has not been implemented as of yet. It does not seem likely for this quarter (Q3) but could possibly get picked up yet this year. I'm happy to add you to the list and will keep this post informed of any new updates.
Thanks for chiming in and have a great day!
0Hi Mike. Please add me to the list for updates.
0It's a deal, Ian!
1Fantastic news! Your perseverance has paid off. Our product team is taking another look at this request and are adding it to their roadmap for consideration. 🙌
We will provide any updates on status changes should this get earmarked and will continue to take in new request as well. Thanks again and happy Friday!
0Hi Mike. Is there any news about the implementation of this improvement? Thank you
0Hi Deborah!
Thanks for the note. As of Q1 this year, this enhancement has yet to be earmarked for work but it does remain on the roadmap to be done at some point. We'll continue to keep this post updated and will let you know of any changes, for sure.
0That's great to hear! I just found this thread searching for the same issue.
0Hi, is this feature available now?
0This feature has not been released yet. However, I can get you added to the ticket so you'll stay appraised of any updates on our end!
-1please keep us updated! this really is a must have for designed documents
0My current workaround is to insert a floating object over the stroke, filled with the background colour of the section. This of course requires some manual adjustments if additional notes are added or the note jumps a page, so is best left until document finalisation.
0Will do Micha Bakker and thanks for sharing this workaround Arthur Reinders Folmer!
0+1. Can't wait for this feature to be available.
2Hi, I would also like to be updated on this feature, which would be of great help for our report!
1Hi Mike, thanks a lot for this improvement, it's very helpful. There is another functionality, which is not yet working in the footnotes: when will we be able to use the referencing options (Auto text > Section page number / > Bookmark page number) in the footnotes?
0Thanks for sharing your input, Patricia.
The ability to add auto text features to footnotes is being considered and I am happy to add your that body of work. We'll keep you similarly updated on that progress going forward. Thanks again and keep staying great!
