CDP — formerly Carbon Disclosure Project — is a nonprofit organization that scores organizations based on their annual environmental transparency and action.
To help draft and collaborate on responses to CDP, you can create a Questionnaire — tailored to your company's specific CDP submission — from Sustainability Explorer.
Step 1. Set up CDP submission
Before you create the CDP Questionnaire in Sustainability Explorer, first prepare your CDP Portal for the disclosure cycle:
-
Set up your company's CDP submission for the reporting year.
Tip: When you set up the submission in the CDP Portal, it rolls forward eligible responses from the prior year's submission.
- Add Workiva as your Disclosure API provider, and note the API ID generated in the CDP Portal.

Step 2. Create CDP Questionnaire
After you prepare CDP Portal for the disclosure cycle, create the CDP Questionnaire in Sustainability Explorer:
- From the Frameworks panel, verify CDP includes the applicable content for the reporting year. If necessary, set up the CDP content from the Properties panel.
- If necessary, align the CDP content with metrics that collect related values in Sustainability Program.
- In CDP Questionnaire, click Create questionnaire, and enter the API ID generated when you added Workiva as a Disclosure API provider.
When you create the Questionnaire, it includes:
- Only the questions of your company's submission in the CDP Portal
- Any of the questions' responses already entered in your submission, such as those rolled forward from the prior year

Step 3. Collaborate on responses
From the CDP Questionnaire, you can collaborate with other workspace members to draft responses for each question.
Tip: To help enable collaboration, a Questionnaire Owner can set Permissions to grant workspace members' access — Viewer, Editor, or Owner — to the full Questionnaire or specific modules within it. To learn more, view Set permissions for CDP questionnaire in Sustainability Reporting workspace.
To help best respond to questions, you can:
- Review their response options, scoring criteria, and other guidance from CDP.
- Identify and access Program metrics that collect related values, such as to copy/paste into responses.
- Discuss and strategize responses with collaborators through Comments.
- Set a status to help track progress or whether you opt to skip a question's responses.

Step 4. Update CDP submission
When responses are ready, a Questionnaire Owner can update your CDP submission directly from the Questionnaire in your Sustainability Reporting workspace.
When you update your submission, you can choose whether to include all responses or only those for specific questions. For the selected questions, your submission in the CDP Portal will automatically update with the responses currently drafted in the Questionnaire, as well as their statuses.
Note: While you can update responses from the Questionnaire, you still finalize your submission — such as to upload attachments or address requesting members — through the CDP Portal.
