Chains
Apply base 64 encode/decode commands (File Utilities)
The File Utilities node now supports encoding and decoding files using base 64.
Extract file contents from a template file resource (File Utilities)
The File Utilities node now supports extracting file contents from a template file resource. This command takes a template file and replaces the provided keys with their values. The values can be strings or files. If the value is a file its contents will be extracted in place of the key.
Unique user email address is no longer required for Chains
A unique user email address is no longer required to sign into Chains.
Connections
New dataset sharing experience: share with user(s) within your organization or groups within a workspace in your organization
We are excited to release a new dataset sharing experience that allows users to share datasets contained in Sheets to users or groups within their organization.
To access this feature, select “Outgoing Connections” from a Data menu or the Connections Panel. You see an option to share with user(s) within your organization or groups within a workspace in your organization. This feature will continue to use the “Connections Panel” experience to display both “Shares” or “Outgoing Connections” and “Incoming Connections” from a “Share”.
Not sure if a source has published new data? No worries…this feature will display a notification in the “Connection Card” informing you that new data has been published and you are ready to refresh and get the new data downloaded to your Sheet.
We plan on sunsetting the old “Data Set” option to publish datasets, but you can continue to use any previously published datasets and re-publish updates to your consumers. However, we strongly recommend that you move to this new experience to share datasets with other sheets, as we expect to retire the old “Data Set” option by the end of the year. No functionality within the “Connections Panel” will be impacted by this change and will continue to work alongside this new experience.
Note: In order to share data from a Sheet with this new experience, you will need to be a Workspace Admin or be given the “Data Sharing Manager” role.
New option to exclude uneditable sheets in a API-driven batch refresh
We’ve added an optional field named “cancelUnwritables” to the Refresh Batch of Connections API.
When set to True, any uneditable sheets in a batch refresh will be skipped and the operation will continue to completion. Sheets might be uneditable if they’re locked, missing, deleted, in Input mode, or if the user doesn’t have permission to edit them.
When set to False, the entire batch operation will fail when an uneditable sheet is encountered. This is the default setting and aligns with the previous functionality. Any existing connections must be manually updated to use this flag.

Generative AI
Workiva Generative AI is now Workiva AI
We have replaced the name "Workiva Generative AI" with "Workiva AI". This change reflects our ongoing commitment to providing you with powerful AI tools seamlessly integrated into the Workiva platform.
Now when you log in, you'll see Workiva AI in the places you previously accessed Generative AI features, support resources, and community spaces.
GRC
Edit rights for Assessment Workflow Details now restricted to Data Admin & Owner roles
Only Owners and Data Admins will now have edit rights for Assessment Workflow details. This corrects a previous issue where Assessment editors were incorrectly granted edit rights to these details.
Permissions
Improved Permissions Report (rev July 8, 2025)
An improved format for the Permissions Report is now available in a beta deployment (contact your CSM for an access request).
This update is designed to make permissions reporting more intuitive, accurate, and actionable for all users.
The new report format provides:
- Enhanced filtering options
- Clear visibility into file type, file name, and file path
- A simplified, user-specific view of permissions
Previously, the report displayed both user and group-based permissions, which could lead to confusion—especially when users belonged to multiple groups having varying access levels. The new report format shows only the effective permissions for each user, providing a clearer and more accurate view of access across your files and folders.
This update also removes the user group export from the Permissions Report, as group-based information is not relevant to the new report format. If you still wish to export group membership details (for example, users and the groups they belong to) this information can be exported from either the Workspace Settings > Members OR Workspace Settings > Groups page.

XBRL now maintained on External Translations
