There are two ways to create highly stylized, branded financial and non-financial reports:
- Complete all report preparation and design execution within the Workiva platform. This allows you to take advantage of Workiva’s collaborative tools while maintaining the integrity of your data.
- Build your report content within Workiva and export it to InDesign for final design execution.
Designing on the Workiva platform
When you choose to do all design in the Workiva platform, everything from data collection, collaboration, review, and design remains in one unified reporting platform. This means data within the report’s content is updated automatically, version control is available, and design elements can be added without creating workflow complexities. This option makes designed reporting more accessible to those who aren’t used to complex design tools, while maintaining a streamlined process.

Designing off the Workiva platform
This option is only recommended if you have a Workiva-trained designer that can lead the process and understands document setup in both Workiva and InDesign. Your report content is curated in Workiva then exported as an ICML file to import into InDesign where all of your final design elements are added. We suggest having all report content and data reviewed and finalized before exporting from Workiva.
