XBRL calculations in Next Gen
已回覆Is there a way to see that your XBRL calculation in Next Gen isn't correct without having to download the calculation report after generation? In Classic, you could see a red dotted line and knew that the calculation wasn't working properly but now all I see is a gray dotted line, which I am not sure if it means that there is a calculation (whether it's right or wrong) or it means that it's using a total label role?

I have a similar question as Mitzie but also how do you edit a calculation assertion to include a new contributor? I tried to drag the concept from the XBRL outline into the calculation assertion on the right-hand panel but it didn't work. thanks!
0Hi Mitzie!
Ooh, great question. Good news, you can totes do this today without having to download a report. Here's how.
Within the XBRL Validation panel on the left-hand side, there's a tab you can toggle to for XBRL calculations. From there use the dropdown to show the yellow inconsistencies and the red errors and then go directly to that location to address. This is the same information as the Classic calculation report, but is interactive and available within the Workiva platform in next gen.Hopefully that helps. Let me know what questions you have for me on the above or if you need anything else. Cheers!0Ricardo Solano here's what I got.
There are two options here:- manually add the new concept to the calculation section of the XBRL outline
- delete the entire calculation relationship, and rebuild it
For option 1, here's some steps. Click the Edit pencil at the top right of the calculation. From there you should be able to drag and drop from the outline, as shown below.
Is this what you are looking for? Let me know if this does resolve the issue for you or you have any questions. Thanks as always and have a super day!0Ohh I totally missed that tab was even there. Thank you Mike!
0No problem Mitzie, happy to help. :)
0Hi Mike, how to do I change the weighting on a concept? I am getting a number of errors saying that concept weighting doesn't match in different places, but I don't know if that is due to certain reversals? I am not used to this type of error message outside of the calculation report. Thanks.
0Howdy, Barbara!
In checking with our XBRL experts, they stated that if this is related to an error that states that the calculation weight is incorrect, you should be able to re-create the calculate to update the weights. Sometimes this will happen if a concept is replaced with a concept of a different balance type but the weight doesn't get updated in the calculation upon replace. Furthermore, If the total is an unspecified balance type (such as in the operating activities section of the cash flows), you can right-click on the contributor in the calculation and click Make Positive or Make Negative to change the weight.
Is this what you are looking today, or have I missed the mark? Let me know either way and I'll certainly be happy to help. Thanks again and happy Wednesday!
0Hi Mike, I would like to add something to the original question, which is why can't we have as we look at the document, yellow or red lines under a calculation assertion so that we can see right away that something is amiss. I have had a frustrating and time-consuming time running validations, looking for calculation warnings or errors, trying to find them and then trying to correct them. I have to say that in this way, the old system, with different colored lines highlighting potential problems was very useful - why the change? The "new" way of adding or editing calculation assertions seems unusually complex.
1Hi Barbara!
Thanks for the addition. In checking (and I'm sure you won't be surprised here) but this is a fairly common request. I don't have a solid answer on why the change, but I do know there's some technical limitations to get this working as before, namely having validate on the fly in order to get those colors to be accurate. We are definitely considering bring that back, though, and I've added your comments to our ticket internally and will keep you updated on how that is progressing. In the meantime, holler if you need anything else, or you have any further questions for me. Thanks as always and keep staying great!0How do we see the amount that the calculation assertion is calculating in NextGen? In Classic, we were able to hover over the dotted line to see a calculated amount vs the reported amount.
Ditto on simplifying the calculation assertion function and improving visibility, i.e. return to Classic calculation assertions.
0Hi Magen!
Thanks for your question. Let me check with our Professional Services team on this and circle back with you for sure. Thanks again and chat soon!
0Hello again, Magen!
The good news is there is the in-app calculation viewer which should show this info. This is accessible in the left-hand panel, like so:There's also a non-interactive Calculation Report available for download in the generation panel.Do either of these provide what you are looking for? Let me know if I've missed the mark, or you have any follow-ups for me. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day!0Mike - I was able to find the 1st option last week, but it's much more cumbersome than Classic. You have to scroll through all your formulas to find the one you're looking for. Calculation assertions in NextGen have really been a significant disappointment.
1Gotcha, Magen! Thanks for sharing that info. I will certainly pass along your feedback to our Product Team.
