Attention SEC filers! We wanted to make sure you’re aware of some recent proposed changes to SEC password length.

Proposed changes
Recently, the SEC released a draft of EDGAR Filer Manual (EFM) version 34, which details proposed changes to password length requirements from 8 characters to 12 characters when logging into both the EDGAR Filing Website and the EDGAR Online Forms Management Website. These changes would be effective Monday, September 30, 2019. This is the same password that customers use to file with Wdesk.

Here’s the official language from draft EFM ver. 34: 

“Filers will be required to provide twelve character passwords instead of eight character passwords when logging into both the EDGAR Filing Website and the EDGAR Online Forms Management Website. Filers who do not update their password to twelve characters will be prompted to update it each time they log in. See Chapter 3 (Becoming an EDGAR Filer) and Chapter 4 (Generating Access Codes) of the “EDGAR Filer Manual, Volume I: General Information.” See Chapter 7 (Preparing and Transmitting EDGARLink Online Submissions) and Chapter 8 (Preparing and Transmitting Online Submissions) of the "EDGAR Filer Manual, Volume II: EDGAR Filing."

Next steps
As the text points out, you will be promoted to update your password to the new 12 character each time you log in to EDGAR or EDGAR Online. If you need a filing to be submitted immediately after 6am Eastern on Monday, September 30, we suggest you file it on Friday between 5:30pm - 10:00pm Eastern so it will post on Monday morning.
