Changing the sign for a linked value
已回覆I want to link a value from a Note (sign is positive) to an EBITDA calculation (sign is negative). Is there a way to change the formatting in the linked cell?

I have the same question. Has anyone figured this out yet?
1Yes, you have to right click on the link, link options, value formatting, then check off "use absolute value"
0The underlying number is not negative; therefore, it is not using absolute value. Our consolidation software produces consolidated face statement numbers where the liabilities are positive. I need to flip those signs to negative for use in my cash flow workpaper.
0Hi Jennifer,
A little late to the party here. Sadly there's not been any new advancements here. I checked with our experts and there's no direct way to flip the sign of a value. The workarounds suggested are akin to the above, i.e. adding another column to your spreadsheet with a
=0-Cellcalc all the way down, and then linking those values instead.I am happy to share your experience and need back with our development team as we look further info this feature request. We'll keep you apprised there as well.
In the meantime, give me a holler if you have any follow-ups. Thanks again and happy Friday!
P.S. thanks for contributing as well, Ekaterina!
0Hi,
I got this issue too, has there been any development on this?
0No news here I'm afraid Abi Chandra. This still remains proposed with our product team and will move into further consideration for 2025. We have got you added here though and will keep you apprised.
0Hi, I would also like to see this feature enabled
0same here for EBITA
0Mike Davis any update on this? Seems like lots of demand for this option.
1Mike Davis would just like to add that this is a big problem for my company and if there is any way to accelerate the resolution, please let me know. Our current work around is to put a bunch of extra rows or columns just to show the negative numbers. This negates a bunch of the Workiva functionality because if I try to see where a given number is going to, I have to look at the actual number then track down anywhere we had to put that number in a dummy column to get the inverse value.
0Hi Keenan Moehring and Jennifer C.! Thanks for chiming in here.
At this time the update is that this work is being considered for development but no timeline is available for when it would get worked on. I will definitely pass along your feedback to our developers for their added considerations. We'll get you connected to this so you can similarly keep apprised of that work. In the meantime, give us a holler if you have any additional follow-ups. Happy Friday!
