Can't merge within a range link

I have encountered a problem with merging cells within a range link that have a link. It's no problem merging/unmerging before I paste the range link another place, but once the link is established - merging cells wont work, and i get this error:

    The issue you're encountering with merging cells within a range link that has a link is due to the restrictions and behaviors of range linking.

     Destination ranges are controlled by the size of the source range they are linked to. This means that any formatting or structural changes, such as merging cells, are restricted once the range link is established.
     
    The error occurs because the connection is attempting to write data over previously merged cells. This is not allowed within the constraints of range linking. Merging cells within a range link is not supported because it could lead to inconsistencies and complexities in maintaining the link structure
     
    Here are a few solution options:
       - If the spreadsheet is small or you know the specific cells that are merged, unmerge those cells before establishing the range link.
      - For larger datasets, select all cells in the sheet and unmerge them before refreshing the connection.
