If you navigate to the right side of the screen you will see a list of icons.  Click on the comment icon.

A comments window will open up  and you can click on the comment icon to create a comment.

If you enter the @ sign then the name, click Post. If that does not work, you should call your CSM.

    Hi Megan Kaufman!

You are on the right track Donna White, however, group mentions are not yet available in next gen comments. It is on our Product Team's future roadmap, though I don't have a solidified date you there. I've shared this post with our Product Team for reference, and so you can follow along with the request as well. In the meantime, let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.

    Happy Wednesday, and stay awesome!

    Hi all!

Wanted to update you here and let you know that group comments has been prioritized and our Product Team has recently made some big strides here. We anticipate having this available this quarter, so stay tuned here (or to What's New) for when that is released. Thanks as always for your patience and have a great day!

Exciting news everyone. Just released to the Workiva platform is the ability to send group directed comments in next gen!  🥳  This available for all next gen document types, as well as SOX and Audit. Go ahead, have some fun and @mention your favorite groups. They won't mind.

Mike, in Next Gen - are we no longer able to use @here option so that it responds to everyone in the comment without retyping their name?

  • Stephanie Korinek

I'd like to second Nicole's request for the "@here" option for tagging in comments - our review process extensively relied on the @here tag in comments in Classic. For us, it's very rare that a comment needs to be directed at an exclusive group, it's generally a handful of individuals involved in addressing a comment chain who may not be in the same user group, and having to retype the name of each person who has replied in a comment chain is inconvenient.

Thanks for the request Stephanie Korinek! I've connected this with our Product Team, and you can follow along here.

Sorry I hadn't acknowledged your original request before Nicole Sackedis. It had been passed along but I've now connected this post directly to our internal ticket as well. Similarly, you can follow along on your requests too.

Any update on the @here function?  I tried clicking the links above to follow the request and the page was not found.

    Hi Janet Smith!

Thanks for reminder. I owe some updates here.

While @here is not yet available for directed comments, the good news it has been prioritized and is being worked on as we speak. We are planning a release in Q1 2021 for this feature and I'll be sure to keep you (and this post) updated on that as we draw nearer.

In the meantime, holler if you need anything else. Thanks again and happy Wednesday!

    Hi Sarah!

No change since my last update. We're still on track for a release this quarter, so with any luck you'll see this functionality again within the next month. I've got you connected to our updates and I'll post here when it is released. In the meantime, thanks much for you feedback and holler if you have any questions. Cheers!

  • Mallory Earll

Hi, everyone! My name is Mallory Earll and I'm a product manager here at Workiva. My team owns comments and we are looking for users to that want early access to a feature that hopefully solves this pain point for you. We have improved behavior so you no longer have to @mention someone who is already participating in a thread. Let me give an example:

    • Mallory @ mentions Mike in a comment
    • Mike replies to Mallory's comment saying, "I can take care of this"
    • Mike did not @ mention me, but I receive an email notification saying "Mike has replied to a thread you've participated in"

Essentially, if someone comments or is directly mentioned on a thread, they are now following that thread. This should alleviate the need for @here as you won't have to explicitly type something to make sure everyone is mentioned, they will naturally be updated. These email notifications will be batched as they normally do for your account so you won't be getting a million emails at once if there is lots of thread activity.

If you want access to this feature now, please let me know in the comments and I will coordinate with your CSM to get it turned on for you. Thank you!

Hi Mallory Earll! One quick follow up to this feature. Does any response to a comment kick off the notification email? For instance, if a 2nd commenter specifically mentions a different user, will the email only be generated for the mentioned user? Or will it email the original commenter and the mentioned user? Sorry if that is confusing.

  • Mike

Hi Kasey! I can help answer that question.

If you have commented on this post, you'd receive a notification by default as a follower for any new comment. In addition, if you are @mentioned in the thread, you'd get that email saying you got mentioned, plus the email as a follower of the post. You can adjust your subscription to this post by clicking "Unfollow" above or going to My Subscriptions and toggling that there.

Let me know if that answers your question or if you need anything else. Best!

Sorry, I might have been confusing. I meant for the new feature that Mallory mentions about responding to comments within Wdesk. After re-reading her post, it has the answer I was needing in her post. Thanks!!

Mallory Earll We would like that option turned on for at least the Statutory Reporting Workspace environment at our company.  I can't speak for the other workspaces that our company has.  Please have the CSM contact my manager  (lenita frith - our CSM will know here) as I am on leave currently.

Hi everyone - we are going live globally with this functionality later this week so are no longer accepting betas. You should have this functionality toward the end of this week!

As promised above, the new comment notification system is now available! Here's a quick recap of the experience:

Essentially, if someone comments or is directly mentioned on a thread, they are now following that thread. This should alleviate the need for @here as you won't have to explicitly type something to make sure everyone is mentioned, they will naturally be updated. These email notifications will be batched as they normally do for your account so you won't be getting a million emails at once if there is lots of thread activity.

    Thanks All.

I see that "@thread" now exists and appears to function as "@here" once did - which is great!

(I don't know about everyone else, but the new thread-following functionality, though useful in theory, wasn't really cutting it for us, so we had our Workiva friends turn that off as the default in our Workspaces.)
