Instructions for dual filing with Workiva (ESEF and SEC)
***Not sure what Dual Filing is? See this post for more information, and this post for any considerations.
Setting up the Document in the Workiva Platform
If a document is created in the Workiva Platform, we must ensure the type is set correctly.
- In the example below, it is set to 20-F. This ensures that Document Health will flag any PNG images, as these are not accepted by the SEC.
To adjust, open the document > under the Files tab, click on Properties dropdown and select Document
Then under the General tab > click the Type dropdown and search for the correct document type
Combining Documents for Filing
- Add PDF to XBRL Profile
- Combine documents to include with the filing
- Generate XHTML to stitch with tagged Workiva document
NOTE: No XBRL can be included in PDF
SEC
ESEF
NOTE: If you are putting an iXBRL tagged cover page, then a designed PDF, followed by a Workiva document, you must have two separate Workiva documents, one for the front half, one for the back half.
Advanced PDF Edgarization Options
Advanced PDF Edgarization options were added to allow consolidation of PDF pages into fewer .jpgs when filing, in addition to options for adjusting resolution. These options will help keep the number of files and file size of filing packages within SEC acceptable limits.
ESEF Dual Filers Instructions
Make sure the correct taxonomy is selected when generating the XBRL - for the 20-F, there is the integrated Filing Experience. For ESEF, they save the Filing Documents .zip and submit that.
EDGAR and ESEF XHTML is different. EDGAR is an older version with stricter rules, whereas ESEF XHTML is a more modern output that allows more design. While a customer can use the same document for both submissions, they should expect the outputs to look different because they use different paths for the final output.
