ESG - Workiva Tasks: Improve Approval options
Dear Workiva Team,
the current Approval process within Workiva tasks is perceived as clumsy by clients. This is because the approver has limited options for returning a value. The "return metric" window that opens after clicking on return within workiva Tasks interface is very small and lacks some useful functionalities.
Approvers need to explain in detail why an answer by the data provider is not approved and what would need to change. What I would suggest is that the return metric window offers the following functionalities:
- Increase its size significantly to enable text editing
- copy the provided text inside, maybe cursive to show its the old answer
- use the "track changes" function to indicate to the provider what should be improved, or at least be able to add cross-out, bolt, cursive or other effects to the Text.
thanks for considering this issue.
Best Regards
Manuel

I think these are interesting suggestions Manuel Rothfuss. It's not quite the same thing, but one thing we are interested in is the ability to have multiple assignees in sequence. As we already use multiple approvers, the idea would be allow additional assignees who can make direct changes to the initial version and then "approve" it, i.e., send it forward to those who can only approve. (Note for Workiva: see #390680.)
Thus instead of distinct assignees or approvers, we're interested in configuring a single sequence of individuals (perhaps including "groups" of individuals at certain steps, as with multiple approvers today) where, in addition to each level being able to return or approve the task, ideally it could be configured to allow any arbitrary level to also edit (coupled with a good audit trail, of course).
This is a little different than your idea but seems like it could be related.
0Hi Andrew,
this is also something that we have clients asking for, as its rare for one person to have all the answers for certain topics, especially in the beginning of the sustainability journey.
My suggestion is revolving more around enabling the provider/approver collaboration in Workiva tasks.
There are certainly touchpoints of your mentioned concept with my suggestion, however, In my opinion the collaboration between approver and provider should be enabled correctly before enabling even more stakeholders (i.e. more providers) into the process.Regards
