Link display defaults in documents since recent update
VoltooidHello,
Ever since the recent update to show more date in the formulas display in next gen document/spreadsheets, whenever I open the link panel in documents, the default is to show the formula details rather than the link properties. It looks like this:
It's a minor quibble, but I can't think of a single instance where the formula pane would be useful in a document as compared to the link properties. Is it possible to change that default setting myself somewhere that I don't know about? I'd much rather see the links as the default.
Thanks,
Bryan

Hello followers!
Great news. A recent release to Workiva has actually split Link Properties from Formula Properties in the right-hand panel.
Let us know if there are any questions on this change, or have any follow-ups. Thanks for your patience and keep staying awesome!
I completely agree.
1Good call out, Bryan. And thanks for tagging along, Jamie!
I've shared this with our engineers to for consideration but in the meantime I definitely encourage other in the community to sharing their own use cases and interest here, as well as voting it up. Your participation and feedback help the Workiva product team prioritize their work, and we appreciate hearing from you.
All the best, and a happy early Halloween! 🎃
0Hey Mike, what is status of this? it's been 10 months. To use Bryan's words, it is not "a minor quibble, but I can't think of a single instance where the formula panel would be useful in a document as compared to the link properties. Is it possible to change that default setting myself somewhere that I don't know about? I'd much rather see the "Link Properties" tab as the default."
And i could have sworn that after we converted to Next Gen in 2020 that it did default to "Link Properties" tab but then at least the last 2-3+ quarters, it started defaulting to fx tab.
thanks.
1Hi Steve!
Thanks for the nudge. I am checking with our product team on this to see if there's anything new going on with this request. I'll let you know what I hear back ASAP. Cheers!
0Folks at our Company are on board with this initiative as well... prefer the default to be the link side vs. the formulas.
1Hey Mike, did this make Workiva's "To Do" for 2023?
1Mike for more visibility :-)
1Thanks for sharing, and for the ping, Greta Hoffmann. 😊
Apologies for that delay, Steve. As of yet this feature request has not been moved to the roadmap and I don't see it for Q1 right now. That being said, it could get picked up later this year. We'll definitely keep you apprised and I'll be sure to reiterate back to the team the continued interest.
0Hello again. It looks like there was a change to how Wdesk behaves for this panel. Throughout the most recent reporting period this panel is reverting back to the formulas tab multiple times throughout an active session in Wdesk. When I first wrote this request, once I changed the display to show links (instead of formulas) during a session it would keep that active for the remainder of the session. Now I have to frequently change the display during a session.
0Hi Bryan,
Thanks for sharing your experience here. I will pass this along to our engineers to take a look at more closely. We'll be in touch soon but definitely if any others are interesting in this change, just let us know.
0Any update on this request making the "To Do" list for 2Q23? anything we can do on our end to help get this simple request prioritized?
thanks
steve
1Hi Steve!
Thanks for the nudge. I pinged our engineers on this one and they're going to chat on where this sits. I'll let you know what I hear back ASAP.
0Yea! Only have to click on "link" icon once! Took 2 years but at least it got done.
Thanks.
Steve
