Connections
BeantwoordHi, I just saw a note about connections between Spreadsheets and Documents. What is the difference between connections and linking? We use Spreadsheets as input files for our external documents such as financial statements and MD&A. We currently use linking between the two.

Hi Lena,
Thanks for reaching out!
Connections are a way for third-party softwares to connect to Wdesk without creating an API on your own. To find out more information on which softwares are able to connect to Wdesk, please visit this site https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002307351-Working-in-Wdata
Linking connects data from the source and links across all files such as charts, files, and presentations. For more details, visit this site https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036000591-What-is-Linking-
Please feel free to reach out with any other questions you may have!
Thanks :)
0Hello, Claire and Lena L! Will you allow me to join the conversation? :P
I currently don't have access to Wdata, but within Wdesk I have access to the "connections" button. When I click "add connection" I can make a connection with "spreadsheet".
My question is: What is the difference between this button and building "links"? The connection pulls all links from one sheet to another automatically, but doesn't this happen with Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v? I tried to make some file but it always shows the message: "update failed". Can you help me with this understanding?
Thank you in advance for your help.0Hi Thiago, I have not actually used "connections" before. So not sure if I can help you. I use "links" a lot between spreadsheets and documents. I also use WDesk sync between spreadsheets and excel files. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
