Workiva and our response to COVID-19
Hi all!
By now I'm sure you've heard about COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by a new coronavirus that has now been detected in more than 60 international locations. The impact of this virus is truly being felt globally and just today the SEC posted a press release on providing regulatory relief and assistance to for the companies being impacted by COVID-19.
At Workiva, we too share your concern about the spread of COVID-19. As such, we are following guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and government agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding COVID-19. According to the WHO, most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Please check out these links from the WHO and CDC to learn more facts about COVID-19.
We are closely monitoring COVID-19 developments, and we are taking precautions to support the health and safety of our community, including employees, customers, and partners.
Workiva Safety Precautions
To help safeguard our customers, employees, and partners, we have policies in place to mitigate the risk of exposure to the coronavirus, including:
-
Restricting business-related travel within certain countries and regions based on COVID-19 risks and guidance for local public health authorities.
-
Requiring any Workiva employees or contractors who have traveled to mainland China, Hong Kong, Italy, and/or South Korea in the past two weeks, or has been in close contact with someone who has in the past two weeks, to forgo coming to Workiva offices or visiting any customers for 14 consecutive days from their last travel day.
Workiva Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan
The Workiva Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan is a thorough plan of action designed to rapidly respond to customers’ needs. The plan addresses all aspects of business continuity, high availability, and disaster recovery. Workiva recognizes the fact delivery of our platform relies heavily upon our customer success operations and information technology systems as well as services from third-party providers.
Workiva conducts an annual disaster recovery exercise in partnership with our cloud service providers: Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services. We recently simulated the effects of a pandemic quarantine on a Workiva office and it resulted in low impact on our services and no impact on our platform.
Workiva Platform Infrastructure
The Workiva platform is backed by the robust infrastructure of Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services. We encrypt our customers’ data in transit and at rest. We employ triple data redundancy by writing data to primary, secondary, and tertiary storage systems, along with storing key backups. The Workiva platform is a cloud-native ecosystem designed to withstand outages in individual components and the underlying infrastructure. Platform components scale and adjust to meet periods of increased network traffic. Critical components are deployed in multiple data center availability zones. Workiva employees can work from anywhere securely with an internet connection due to this cloud-based infrastructure.
24/7 Customer Service and Support
Our Customer Success and Support teams are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They are located in 15 locations on three continents. Since our platform is cloud-based, we are able to work remotely from anywhere with an internet connection. We also have service contingency plans for escalations and remediation.
Please let us know if you have additional concerns. Thank you and take care.
