When you add a filter to a query, you can set its static custom value on the Filters tab. To instead select a filter’s criteria dynamically when the query runs, such as to slice-and-dice data in real time, you can base its value on a parameter.

To define a parameter, click Create Parameter from the Parameters right panel, or click Create New Parameter from the filter’s Field Properties right panel. Then, enter the parameter’s name, and set its criteria based on its data type and default value. To ease setting the parameter when the query runs, you can also set a pick list of options to choose from. When you create a parameter, you can use it with multiple filters in the query (but make sure to use it with at least one to ensure its value applies to the query’s definition.)
