Blackline Reviews of Documents
完了Is there a way to create a blackline with two documents from different projects, i.e. a final Q2 2019 10Q versus a current Q3 2019 10Q? I am on the classic platform.

Comparing Workiva Documents is out of beta and is now globally released to the Workiva platform.
Please see this Help article for more info on the feature. And thanks to all our beta testers for putting it through its paces. We couldn't have done it without you.
Hi Kristy Norris,
Currently in Wdesk you cannot create a blackline between separate documents, however, you are no alone in this request. Here's a similar one regarding blacklines between projects: https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360050328131-Blacklines-Between-Projects.
Either way, I've passed this request along to our Product Team and will keep you updated here with any new developments. I've also moved this question into our Feedback & Suggestions topic and have extracted it to attach to an ongoing ticket of this same request.
All that aside, one common method I've seen here is customers will rollforward their 10Q by copying the document, so in this case your Q2 2019 10Q, and then this will make revision 1 essentially the final version of Q2 2019 10Q. Then as edits are made, any blacklines ran against revision 1 will be a comparison of that. Does that make sense?
Let me know what questions you have or if you need anything else. Thanks again for your feedback and have an awesome day!
1👋 Kristy!
I was revisiting this one as it seems it got missed in the shuffle a bit. Wanted to update you that the option to blackline separate documents is available as part of a beta today, and is in process to be globally available soon. If you're interested in the beta, let me know and I'll get that going for you. Otherwise stay tuned to What's New for that release.
Let me know what questions you have in the meantime. Thanks much and have a great day!
0Mike,
We're working on something where this could be useful. Is this feature still in Beta? How can we go about getting on the Beta if it's not GA yet?
0Hi Dallas!
Yep, this is currently still in beta. I'm happy to put in a request to get this enabled for you. I'll be in touch on the backend shortly. 🤜 🤛
0Hi Mike Davis!
Is this blackline feature still in Beta? If so, how can we get the feature enabled to test out?
Thanks!
0Hi Dianela!
Yep, this feature is still in Beta. I can get a request started for you to have this enabled. We'll reach out there shortly. Give me a holler if you need anything else in the meantime. Cheers!
0Hi Mike - Could you please put in a request to have this enabled on my account?
Thanks!
0Hi Daniel!
Welcome to the community. For sure, we'll get this going ASAP. Thanks for reaching out 😎
0Mike - Can you put in a request to have this enabled on my account as well?
0Hi Dave! Yes, definitely.
0Hi Mike, can you please put in a request to have this enabled on my account as well?
Thank you!
0You betcha, Savanna!
0Please clarify. Currently, the ability to create a blackline from two documents in "different projects" is in beta? If so, can you provide a link on how to see if it is already available to us. I can't find that it is, but would like to verify. Thanks.
0Hi April,
Correct, so-called "cross document backline" is in beta testing still. It would be enabled per Workspace, if it was turned on, and you would see the following icon in Home when you select a document from the Files menu (or right-click).
or
From what I can tell on my end, I do not show this beta as enabled for you. If you'd like to have this, let me know and I can get that request going.
0Hi Mike. Can you enable this for me?
0Can you confirm that the documents must be in the same folder in order to run a blackline? Thanks.
0Kim Dang sorry I missed your request here. I'll get this going ASAP.
Kristi Livingston to my knowledge it does not need to be in the same folder, however, what I found when testing was this. If you are in sub-folder and click on a file and select Blackline option, the list of available files it provides seems restricted to the same folder location. However, if you are in the Files view (all files) and select a file, then choose Blackline, you can see all the files available. Is that maybe what you are seeing?
0Can you enable on my account? Thank you.
0You betcha Ellen! I'll be in touch momentarily 👍
0Can u enable it for me please. Thanks
0Hi Aruna!
We'll get this going for you.
0Mike Davis Can you enable this for my account? If so, how quickly? Sorry for the rush response but I would like to have it this morning.
0Hi Chris!
I can for sure put this request in and add some urgency to it to see if we can get it enabled here this morning.🤞 We'll be in touch.
0I'd like this functionality as well please.
0Thanks for reaching out, Anne. We'll get on this right away.
0Hi Mike - Can I have the beta functionality added as well?
0Hi Ryan!
For sure. I'll get cracking on this.
0Hi Mike - could you please enable this feature on my account too?
