  Thank you for your question and your patience while I ran this by some of our design experts. 

  If a cell has additional white space on in Workiva (like a row manually made deeper), when exported to ICML, the cell styles will then control that space and the ‘padding’ or white space won’t exist unless it is added to the InDesign cell style associated with the cell.

  If this is a unique style cell, then it will have a unique cell style once imported into InDesign and the cell padding can be set as required. If however, it is not unique but a common style throughout the report, then changing the cell styles insets would actually affect all cells that have the same style (which may not be what you user want to happen).

  Our experts offered up three ideas that could help with this issue:

  • Apply a unique tint to that cell on the platform, which would mean that cell has a style of its own, which can then be picked out in InDesign and the tint switched off and the cell padding amended (which would only then affect that one cell).
  • Put some styled paragraphs in the cell with just a single space added to each paragraph to effectively fool InDesign into keeping the cell deeper.
  • When exporting ICML, clicking on fixed row height, in the advanced tab. This one has a few implications, though. If there is obscured text in a cell on the platform then it will still be obscured in InDesign. A standard ICML export allows cells/rows to grow in depth if needed whereas this method doesn’t. Also, if using this method you would have to use it every time otherwise you’d see the same problem return.
