We’re excited to announce three major updates to Workiva Scripting, now available in production.

Python 3.13 Support

Python 3.13 is now available in Workiva Scripting! Users can configure scripts to run on either Python 3.9 or Python 3.13 directly from the Scripting Editor or API.

What’s new:

• Choose between Python 3.9 and 3.13 for each script.
• Existing scripts remain on 3.9 by default.
• New scripts default to Python 3.13.

While Workiva will continue to support Python 3.9 until October 2026, we encourage users to migrate to Python 3.13 as soon as possible. This ensures your scripts stay future-ready and allows you to take advantage of the latest Python innovations and performance improvements.

AL2023 with Python 3.9 and 3.13 Support

Scripting now runs on Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023), supporting both Python 3.9 and Python 3.13.

What’s new:

• Python versions will now be patched automatically through AL2023 updates.
• Scripts using Python 3.9 can continue to run until October 2026, with Amazon providing extended support.

We strongly encourage all customers to begin migrating their scripts to Python 3.13 to future-proof their automations and take advantage of the latest Python features.

Improved Resource Handling and Reporting

Scripting now better manages and reports on system resources, making it easier to understand and optimize script performance.

Key improvements:

• Scripts that exceed system resource limits now gracefully terminate and log the reason for termination.
• All successful script runs now include detailed resource utilization summaries.
