    Fantastic new, Mikaela!

Recently released to the Workiva Platform is a new formatting option in cells for showing zero (0) values in alternate ways, expanding beyond the default "Em dash". Under Advanced Options you'll now see the ability to show zeros as an Em dash (—), En dash (–), hyphen(-) or blank.

Not thrilling news, but a nice little add either way. Thanks again for your feedback and patience. Holler with any questions and have a great rest of your day!

    Great suggestion, Mikaela!

I actually found a few other requests for this internally, so I've got you connect there. There's not timeline for these suggestions as of yet as they remain a proposed idea, but we'll be sure to keep you updated. Certainly any others who would find value in Mikaela's suggestion are encouraged to chime in here too. In the meantime, give us a holler if you need anything else. Thanks for your contributions and have a super day!

Is it possible to make En dash the default?

    Hello Abi,

Unfortunately this isn't currently an option. However, we have had requests for this from customers in the past. I have gone ahead and created you a ticket for our products team so they know we have another individual interested in this! We will keep you updated on the status/progress of this potential implementation on that ticket.

Is it possible to make En dash the default for the whole document. I need to keep changing it in every section.

    Hi Christina Joseph!

This is still in the proposed state, but there are a number of customers requesting this, so I went ahead and spun up a ticket for you to add your voice to the conversation! It can only help!

    Hi Lars,

Please add me to this ticket as well.
What is the proposed work-around for customers with the need to change 0 to dash in the whole document?

    Kind regards,
    Aida Ekberg

What is the status on this? Are we able to globaly set an en dash rather than a default em dash. Is there a simple way to change throughout an existing document all the em dashes to be en dashes. Doing a global find/replace may not be the best method.

    Hi Glyn,

Thanks for the question. Today you can change the setting for displaying a zero as an en dash vs. em dash is found under Value formatting options, which you can set per instance, or via your Style Guides to act as the document "default". However, to fully switch a file over to this setting you'd want to follow these steps.

    Set Default to En Dash
Use the "Value Format Styles" feature to lock down the default formatting for en dashes. This involves creating or modifying a style guide to ensure that all cells or text default to en dashes instead of em dashes. This can be applied across the document and will auto change in places where the style guide is currently being used. More info on editing style guides is here.

    Bulk Find & Replace
For places where you used an em dash in text that were not sourced from another file as a link or the above mentioned style guide was not used, you'll need to find them and replace them and/or use the style guide if available. This can be done in bulk now though so you can swap those out fairly quickly. More info on bulk find and replace is here

Hope that helps some. And apologies Aida Ekberg for missing your prior question. The above would also be the best method to bulk update a file to use en dash and ensure all uses are replaced.

    Holler with any follow-ups. Cheers!
