Hyperlinking in Spreadsheets
Con rispostaIs it possible to have the hyperlinking functionality in Spreadsheets to function similar to Documents, where it's possible to link to a specific section? Currently, I believe you can only link to a web address, which works initially, but now that we've rolled forward our Spreadsheet for the next quarter, the hyperlinks are still linked to the initial web address, so they're still referencing back to the prior quarter's Spreadsheet, so now we need to go through and update all of our hyperlinks in the Spreadsheet to now point to the current quarter's Spreadsheet. It should rather just point to the Spreadsheet tab, so that even when the Spreadsheet is copied, the Hyperlink will still work in the new copied Spreadsheet.

📣 Great news! A recent release to the Workiva Platform has made available inter document hyperlinks, even as granular as specific sections of the file. These are also supported in PDF exports of the files. You can find the option in the new pop-up when hyperlinking in a file.
Hi Kyle!
Ooh, good call out. To make sure I follow, you are referring to something like this, but in a Spreadsheet?
A similar post of this same request is found here, although the workaround mentioned there is the one you are talking about above, which, as you point out, won't work after rolling forward. I'm happy to share this feedback with our team for further consideration too. I'll keep you updated with any new developments, but do let me know what questions you have or if you need anything else. Thanks again and chat soon!
1Yes, exactly! Thanks Mike!
0Quick update here. At this time work is not planned for this feature enhancement. We'll keep this post here to and will continue to take in feedback and requests here. If you'd find value in this suggestion, we'd encourage you to add a comment or simply vote this up. Each little bit helps.
Should this get reprioritized, we'll let you know here and keep you updated. Thanks again and have a great day!
0That would be beneficial to have
1This would be helpful. Thank you.
1I think adding hyperlinks to spreadsheets would be beneficial for complex spreadsheet tie-out support such as cash flows. Our cash flow spreadsheet has a tab that is the calculation of each line item which formula references tabs that are linked to our 10-Q/10-K spreadsheet and others that are manually submitted by other business units. Since the tie-out is so long and complex my thought was using hyperlinks could make the review process for management/auditors easier as we could export the entire spreadsheet as a PDF and include hyperlink references to each page where the support is coming from.
2Do we need to request this to be added to our account?
1Hi Jamie!
You should not, no. It is generally available for use.
1Mike Just to clarify, this hyperlinking functionality is now available in spreadsheets?
0Good call @...! I checked and it does seem you cannot hyperlink to a specific file (at least not from a drop down, though you could provide a direct link to the file). You can hyperlink to a Spreadsheet from a Document, if that makes sense. Sorry for any added confusion there.
0Would be great to get the same functionality for spreadsheets.
3Agreed that it would be really great to add an external hyperlink into a spreadsheet
0It would be really great to be able to add an link to another sheet in the Spreadsheet document, similar to a section in Documents.
0I agree that functionallity would be great for Spreasheets too, as they have several sheets and sometimes it is difficult to find the source (currently it is only possible through the formulas panel).
In my case, I normally link my data with a specific cell in a specific sheet, so I can click on it and it would take me straight to the that position.
0This would be a very useful feature, is it on the list for development yet?
0Stuart Brown sadly at this time work is not planned for this feature though we do continue to take in new requests here. I've got you connected on my end and we'll keep you apprised of any change going forward as well.
0I agree. This feature would be great to have.
1I want to make a new sheet in a spreadsheet based on another sheet that acts as a template, it has dozens of hyperlinks and I have no way to automate it. I try to make a copy but the hyperlinks keep pointing to the template sheet instead of the new copy.
I have managed to automate the formulas for the new copies with sripting but there is no way to automate the hyperlinks.
It would be nice if you could include this functionality.0Thanks for sharing your use case here, Jorge!
To make sure I follow, you have a sheet in your Spreadsheet that you duplicate, and that sheet contains hyperlinks going out. The copied section doesn't seem to retain the hyperlinks correctly? Or are these destination links or source links? Just wanting to make sure I get this feedback logged to the right team. Let me know too if I hae totally missed the mark or you have follow-ups for me.
0The hyperlinks that the template sheet has make reference to some cell, then when I make the copy, the hyperlinks of the copy are referenced to the template sheet instead of being referenced to the same sheet that is the copy. Actually this does not matter, it is the case that there is no functionality to access to these hyperlinks and to be able to modify them, for example by means of variables in scripts.
