Attachments and performance issues

We use attachments in WDesk for our QA, but it makes opening/closing/scrolling/editing the document significantly slower. We want to use attachments in our 10Q & 10K, but are worried about the speed. Are there any solutions to use attachments and have it not slow down our WDesk files?
