Upload & Insert Image
CompletatoHello,
Is it possible to upload and insert images in Next Gen? Or we can only insert images via the Edit tab?
The reason is when we file, there seems to be a bunch of image files created and the file name is not familiar. I also can't seem to trace where the images are inserted in the document. It would be more organized if we can insert images from a folder. Such as for our logo, that way we only have 1 image for the logo that is place on the cover page and footers throughout the document.
Looking forward to hearing an answer soon!

I have great news Linda Lo and Matthew Powers. A recent release to the next gen platform has now made it so multiple images are no longer created when re-inserted. 🎉.
Thanks so much for your feedback and patience. Certainly give us a holler if you have any questions or need anything else. Cheers! 🥂
Great question, Linda!
I was doing some mulling around on this and I have a few ideas for you. I'll preface this by saying I was making a few assumptions, the first being that you are both working and filing in a Document. If that's incorrect, just let me know.It seems like you are looking for an image repository of some sorts, which is something a Classic project was useful for. However, projects are not a thing in next gen and as of yet there's not a great place to store images in that same manner. That being said, I've found a few ways to achieve what you are looking for.
Option 1 - Copy / Paste from Home
In Home, you can open an image by double-clicking on it. This opens in a new browser tab and from here you can right-click on the image and choose "Copy". Then you can go to your Document and do a CTRL+V to paste the image in.
Option 2 - Insert Images into Non-Printing Section and Copy/Paste
One way I tested and worked great was inserting images into a non-printing section of a Document. From that section, you can then copy an image and paste into another section of your next gen Doc.Option 3 - Insert Images into Another Doc and Copy/Paste
Very similar to Option 2, but in this case you would insert these images into another Doc that acts as your image repository of sorts. From there, you can copy an image and then paste into your working Doc.
As mentioned above, but in both options 2 and 3, you could integrate this with option 1 and copy your images into either your non-printing section or image repository doc.
Hopefully this helps makes some sense. Do let me know what questions you have, or if you need anything else. Thanks again for your time and have a great day in the meantime. Cheers!0Thanks Mike, great suggestions! We are working in and filing in Next Gen. I've tried both option 1 and 2, it appears to still create extra image files each time it's pasted somewhere, which was part of the problem. So yes, we now have 2 awesome image repository options, but we also have the extra image files issue. We've got our CSM and his team working on this. Hope they can figure it out.
0No problem, Linda. Glad those helped with at least part of the issue.
I chatted a bit with your CSM as well (a swell guy, as I'm sure you're aware) and I have a better idea of what you are dealing with. I've went ahead and submitted a request for your suggestions that way you too can stay connected with the goings-on there.
In the meantime, give me a holler if you have any follow-ups or need anything else. Thanks again and keep staying awesome!0Hi - I know it's short notice, but I am about to file an 8-K and noticed there are about 14 versions of the same image included in the filing with different names. I had uploaded an image and copied it throughout the document (mainly in headers and footers). I used to upload the image to the project and use that single image, and did not have this issue. It will look messy to file our 8-K with 14 image attachments! Can you please advise ASAP on this.
0As far as I'm aware, for the time being it's unavoidable in Next Gen. We had filed our 6-K with multiple image files of our logo that was copied in a few places throughout the documents.
0Linda Lo is correct, at this time that is unavoidable in next gen. It was done to avoid any issues with duplicate naming but our Product Team is looking into some improvements there. Thanks for your feedback on this. I'll keep you both updated on any progress going forward. Cheers, and happy Friday!
0Mike Hi Mike, has this duplication of image files been corrected? We are getting ready to file our first 10-Q in Next Gen and we have 1 logo file for the cover page and another logo file for an exhibit. Would like to streamline the filing package to have both documents reference the same logo file as we did in Classic. Thank you!
0Hi Hazel Cerisier!
Yes, I can confirm that the image duplication issue has been addressed in next gen filings. You should not see multiples of the same logo generated. Thanks for reaching out and have an excellent filing! 🤜🤛
0Hi Mike,
I'm still experiencing the duplication of image files in next gen filings. Is there something specific I need to do so this doesn't happen? Also, is there an update on renaming images?
Thank you!
0Hi Linda!
Hmm... so far I've been striking out on reproducing that and I did a little digging internally to see if there's any known issues with this but haven't heard back yet. I definitely want to get this resolved for you so I've drummed up a request for you here, and a member of our Support Team will be in touch soon to see if they can diagnose.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Give me a holler if you need anything from me in the meantime. Talk soon!
0Wanted add that as of a recent update to Workiva, you can now rename you image files (as well as view their file info, such as type and size).
08/23/22: re "Insert Image," please add a border feature. After I insert a photo, I would like to add a border (and/or a drop shadow) to make the photo look nicer on the page. Please add a border feature. Thank you!
