Hi all!
Pleased to announce that a recent release to the Workiva platform has now made EDGAR variable width available in next gen Documents. You can toggle this setting in the Table Properties panel. Thanks for your continued patience and feedback along the way. Let me know if you need anything else, or have any other questions. Cheers!
Hi Andrew!
I just double checked with our team and while currently you can't toggle this setting off like you could in classic, if you don't stretch the table all the way to the margin, by default it will not be set to variable width in EDGAR.
Rest assured you are not alone in this request either and I've passed your feedback along to our Product Team who are looking into this. I've attached your request to a ticket here for you to follow, but I'll also keep you updated here with any new developments. Thanks much for your contributions and let us know what questions you have in the meantime.
Happy Friday and have an excellent weekend. Cheers!0I also have this question, and to clarify this answer, does it ONLY have EDGAR variable width if the table is all the way to the right margin? So that if I take all my "maxed out" tables and narrow a column by one point, it will be fixed-width?
0Howdy fellow Mike!
The answer here is sort of yes and no. If you set the table width to be something less than the full margin size, the table will still stretch, but just not to the full width. However, it wouldn't truly be fixed, in this case. The smaller you set the table size, the less it stretches when you view in an expandable window, such as an EDGAR view. Does that make sense?
I will say that our Product Team is currently looking at making this functionality mimic more closely to what it did in classic tables. I've passed along your feedback and will keep this post updated going forward. In the meantime, give me a holler if you do have any questions. Thanks again and chat soon. Cheers!0Hi Mike - is there any updates form the Product Team on the status of this request? Having non-variable width tables is something that I would like to leverage in our upcoming filing.
Thanks for the help,
Cody
0Hi Cody,
Yes, I can provide a quick update here. Our Product Team is in progress on this feature and anticipates having it released next month. I've connected your request to our internal ticket to track progress, which you can follow here: https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/requests
I'll also keep this post updated too when this feature goes live, which will also be broadcasted on our What's New topic. In the meantime, let me know what questions you have for or if you need anything else. Thanks for your feedback and have a great day!
0Mike Hi Mike!! I can't seem to find the EDGAR variable width option in my tables properties - am I just completely missing the boat here?
0Hi Gaby Le! Big fan :)
The option for EDGAR Variable Width should be available from the Table Properties on the right-hand panel, at the very bottom under Advanced Options.
However, I suspect you've looked there and are NOT missing the boat. A caveat for EDGAR Variable Width is that it only show up for filing type documents. If you have the type None or Other, it will not be an option. To see and/or change your document type, go to File > Properties > Document Properties. From here, toggle the Type to a filing type (10-Q, for example) and Save Changes. This will make this setting show up for you in Table Properties.
Does that make sense? Let me know if I've missed the mark or you have questions for me on any of the above. Thanks again and keep staying awesome 😎
0Mike Hey Mike! As always, you're spot on! I changed the document type to a filing document and voila, the option popped up. Thank you so much and have a great rest of your day!
0Awe, thanks Gaby! Much appreciated and happy to help. Ditto!
0Hi,
I too am trying to turn off the Variable Width in a CORRESP document type, but it doesn't appear to be an option in the Table Properties. Is this not available for all filing types?
Thanks,
Kelley
0Hi Kelley!
Good catch there. I was not aware that wouldn't be available for that filing type. I also checked and it wasn't there for COVER types either, which is another non-public form.
The good news here is that the doc type in Workiva doesn't necessarily limit what you end up submitting to EDGAR. To get variable width on the CORRESP, you just need to create a document that has that option, such as an Exhibit. You can call it CORRESP and then add it to your filing at the Collect step. Once generated, during the Label step, you would mark it as a CORRESP and not an Exhibit.
Having it submitted to the SEC in this way will denote that is a private, non-public type. To my knowledge, most CORRESP forms don't make it public but if they do, it would after the review period of several weeks.
Let me know if that does or doesn't make sense, or if I've completely missed the mark. Holler if you have any questions as well or need anything else. Thanks as always and happy filing!
0Hey Mike,
Are there any plans to bring back the ability to set fixed/variable widths by individual column? Similar to the feature in Classic?
0Hi Jared!
Today you can set the fix witch of a column through the Formats panel, and can set your columns and rows to auto-resize to fit cell contents too, under Table Properties. I think this is the closest to variable width per column. Does that make sense? Let me know if I've missed the mark or you have any questions for me.
Thanks and chat soon!
