Sustainability Roll Forward: Has anyone experienced this when rolling forward a Factbook a second time?
Hi everyone! Curious if other Sustainability users have experienced a similar challenge with the Sustainability Roll Forward process.
Our situation:
- During our first roll forward, I missed adding our report file. The Factbook roll forward itself completed successfully and was querying the correct reporting year.
- Because the report file was missed, our CSM recommended that we remove the files and year and start over, this time making sure the report was included.
- When we rolled the Factbook forward a second time, we ran into an issue with the connections.
- Our CSM suggested the most likely cause was an outgoing Connection Conflict, since on a second roll forward the previous year’s Factbook may have already pushed data to the same Wdata table.
- However, when we checked, our outgoing connections were blank. The issue was ultimately escalated to Workiva Support, and we were able to resolve it by redoing the roll forward an additional time.
Has anyone else had to remove a year and roll a Factbook forward a second time and experienced similar connection issues?
If so, what did you find was causing the issue, and what ultimately worked for you? I am also curious if this is something others know to look out for when having to redo a roll forward. Our issue is resolved now, but I wanted to compare experiences and see if others have run into the same challenge.

I haven't experienced this but it sounds like something that needs to be documented / fixed by Workiva.

After checking in with our Support team to review your ticket, it looks like the root cause of the missing connections on your second attempt was that the Incoming and Outgoing Connections box was not checked during the Add reporting year step. When that specific box is unselected, the connections won't carry over into the new files, which explains why your outgoing connections were completely blank.
As you noted, the key takeaway for anyone redoing a roll forward is to double-check those selection options to ensure every item you need (reports, connections, etc.) is checked before running the process.
