Coming soon! Updates to Sustainability Explorer and a new Transition Accelerator for simplified ESRS
TerminéeAs previously discussed, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) is drafting updated European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) based on feedback and a drive for simplification from the European Commission (EC); EFRAG is expected to submit their draft to the EC by the end of November. The EC is then expected to adopt the simplified ESRS in 2026 — for fiscal year 2026 reporting — at which point Sustainability Explorer will update with the new, finalized version of the Standards.
Before then, however...
Sustainability Explorer will update in early 2026 to include EFRAG's draft ESRS, to enable a jump start on research and review.
To further help prepare for the new version, you'll also be able to use a new ESRS Transition Accelerator, which will automatically compare the current Standards to the simplified draft, and highlight the potential impact to metrics aligned with ESRS in Sustainability Program. With the Accelerator, you'll be able to:
- Review all amendments from EFRAG.
- Focus on requirements material to your company and their impact on your data collection needs.
- Determine how to update your Program metrics accordingly.
While you may still engage with your advisory partner throughout the transition, this tool will enable you to perform these assessments and updates on your own.
In addition...
You'll be able to attend webinars and review guidance from regulatory experts and product management, with a focus the simplified ESRS and the impact of its revised requirements. Stay tuned to the What's New in Sustainability Reporting and the Sustainability Insider newsletter — and this Community post — for more details!

FYI, Sustainability Explorer now includes the draft simplified ESRS! While this draft version is subject to change pending public consultation by the European Commission, it — along with the aforementioned ESRS Transition Accelerator and DMA update templates — can help enable proactive preparation for when the simplified Standards become law. To learn more, view Adopt simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards.
To dive deeper into these updates and what they may mean for your organization, join our regulatory and sustainability experts for the The simplified ESRS are here: A 2026 strategy check for CSRD reporting teams webinar on December 16, 2025 at 10:00-10:30AM GMT.
0For those who missed the aforementioned webinar or want a rewatch, it's now available on-demand.
0For more details about the latest updates for the simplified ESRS, join the Beverage Break on February 12, 2026 — CSRD Made Practical: Understanding Simplified ESRS and Preparing for What's Next in Workiva. At this event, you'll gain additional clarity with a regulatory overview of the draft simplified ESRS, guidance on how to prepare your workspace for the revised Standards, and breakout sessions to learn how your peers prioritize the changes to ESRS.
Note that this session may best accommodate North America schedules; another Beverage Break is scheduled February 19 for EMEA.
If you can't attend either session, a recording will be available on-demand afterwards.
0Heads up that the ESRS Transition Accelerator mentioned in this post is now available in Workiva Marketplace for download to your Sustainability Reporting workspace. With this tool, you can:
- Compare the disclosure requirements of the ESRS Delegated Act of 2023 to the draft simplified ESRS recently released by EFRAG, with clarity of what changed between versions.
- Identify metrics in Sustainability Program connected to ESRS, and decide how to adjust them based on your new data collection needs.
- Automatically generate import templates to add or update metrics accordingly.
To learn more, view Prepare for draft simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards with ESRS Transition Accelerator.
0If you couldn't attend the February 12 Beverage Break or just want a refresher, its recording is now available.
And you have another chance to catch a live version on February 19, scheduled to best accommodate those in EMEA. Register if interested!
0As you may have seen in the Sustainability release notes for March 2026, you can now request a Spreadsheet template to help prepare the double-materiality assessment (DMA) templates of your Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) add-on for the simplified ESRS:
- To start fresh for the simplified ESRS and not retain your DMA templates' current topics, request the Simplified DMA topics and DRs bulk import Spreadsheet to import the new topics and disclosure requirements (DRs).
- If you previously used the DMA templates for the ESRS Delegated Act of 2023 and want to retain their current topics for continuity or year-over-year comparison, request the Simplified DMA topics and DR update accelerator Spreadsheet to decide how your current topics map to the new topics.
You should consult your advisory partner to decide which template is right for you! Given these Spreadsheets use the draft simplified ESRS, your partner may suggest it's best to wait until EFRAG publishes the finalized Standards. If you choose to update your current topics, your partner may also be required to help set up your DMA templates with the updated topics and their impacts, risks, and opportunities (IROs).
