Technical Update: Rendering Discrepancies in the FERC Viewer Form 1 (Schedule 404)
We want to provide an update regarding a rendering discrepancy some of you may have noticed within the Workiva FERC Viewer, specifically concerning Schedule 404 in Form 1.
What is happening?
Currently, Schedule 404 does not appear in the Workiva FERC Viewer compared to FERC’s own internal filing portal.
We want to clarify that this is a rendering-only issue. Data Quality: Your XBRL data is accurate, valid, and compliant.
- The Root Cause: FERC recently updated their internal "test/live" filing systems to resolve this specific Schedule 404 display issue. However, they have transitioned to a model where they make interim updates to their internal Viewer without sharing that updated code publicly with software vendors.
- The Result: Because this updated code has not been released externally, Workiva (and all other software providers) cannot yet align our local viewers with FERC’s latest internal version.
Steps for a Successful Review and Filing
To ensure you feel confident in your submission, we recommend the following workflow:
- Trust the XBRL Generation: Continue using Workiva to generate your XBRL. The underlying data structure for Schedule 404 remains 100% valid.
- Perform a Test Submission: Test File as you normally would through the Workiva filing experience.
- Verify via FERC’s Viewer: Once the test filing is processed, view the rendering within the eForms FERC portal by logging in as a Filer to view your filings. You will see that the Schedule 404 issue is resolved in their live environment.
- Finalize in Workiva: Once verified via the test file, you can proceed with your live filing in Workiva as usual.
Our Commitment
Workiva, alongside XBRL.US and other industry stakeholders, is actively providing feedback to FERC regarding this recent change in their update policy. Our goal is to advocate for more frequent public code releases to ensure all vendors can provide a "mirror image" of the FERC system.
We will continue to update the Community as soon as an updated set of code is released by FERC.
