Intelligent Section Deletion in Documents (ESG and Regulatory Modules)
My client ITAU UNIBANCO S/A has raised the following relevant point:
Problem Description:
When deleting a section within Workiva documents, all content in that section is automatically erased. Currently, there is no option to:
- Preserve the content;
- Transfer the content to another section;
- Maintain links, formatting, and permissions.
Identified Impacts:
- Manual and error-prone process;
- Loss of productivity;
- Risk of broken links and loss of traceability;
- High operational cost, especially in regulatory (ESG) environments.
Request from Itaú:
Implement an intelligent section deletion feature with the following capabilities:
- Option to automatically move content to another section;
- Preservation of links, formatting, and permissions;
- Ability to select the destination section when deleting.
Internal Workiva Feedback & Next Steps:
Current Possibilities:
- Using cut and paste preserves internal links and references, as well as some formatting.
- Permissions are maintained only if applied to the entire document.
Current Limitations:
- Attachments are not transferred with pasted content;
- Section-specific permissions must be manually reapplied;
- The platform does not natively offer an option to move content when deleting sections;
Additional Notes: Deleting entire sections is not a common practice and may indicate an internal process that could be reviewed. The requested feature is reasonable but requires broader validation.
