Why does publishing links from a spreadsheet not result in a new version of the document?

If I publish links in the spreadsheet the document is updated but does not show as a DRAFT, and then cannot be shared to create another version. So therefore cannot run a blackline, even though all the numbers may have changed?

    Hi John!

    Excellent question. I did a quick check to make sure it worked as I expected, and indeed it did. The good news is yes, these published link changes are captured in a blackline, should you run one. The functionality works the same as mentioned in this post regarding links between classic Workbooks and Documents, but to reiterate, when you generate a blackline between revisions that incorporates changes made from Spreadsheet links that have been published, a new revision is automatically generated in your document to encompass those changes. I would look like so:



    In my example, I generated a revision of version 12 and 13. Between those two shares, I changed some linked values in my Spreadsheet and published the changes. As you point out, it didn't force a share in the document but the values did in fact update. The blackline catches that and here is how it looks:

    Thanks Mike, that makes sense. I was in the unusual situation of working with revision 1 (as we just rolled our document) so couldn't run a blackline yet as nothing to compare it to. This is unlikely to be the case going forward. Thanks.
