ESEF Reporting Manual and Validation Updates
We are excited to announce that following ESMA's publication of the 2024 Conformance Suite in January that we have released all the changes required based on the ESEF Reporting Manual updates made in 2024. All ESEF iXBRL files generated after this release will now be in conformance with these updates and validated against the latest version of Arelle, which has been updated and is passing ESMA's Conformance Suite.
We would like to highlight the following two updates related to ESMA’s recommendation included as Guidance 2.6.3 of the ESEF Reporting Manual related to the Naming convention for report packages and report files.
The XBRL report package will no use the .xbri file extension as allowed in the Report Package 1.0 specification, unless a local regulator has stated they will not accept this. We have added in the option to switch back .zip from the XBRL Profile if you need or prefer that format.
ESMA also recommends that the Version component of the file name be included in the Report Package. This is now available in the Workiva platform under the XBRL profile using the Filing Version (Optional) field. You have the option to add a numeric digit as recommended by ESMA. It is important to verify your local OAM requirements before updating this field. ESMA recommends starting with “1” for the first submission and updating in increments of “1” for each resubmission, which will require a manual update to this field for each submission. See available field in the XBRL Profile below:

Currently these instructions can only be applied to ESEF 2022. In ESEF 2024 Filling Version (Optional) is locked. Will this become editable before the end of year 2025?
