How do I remove footnotes?

I'm having a hard time removing footnotes. I was able to delete the footnote content at the bottom of each page, but was unable to remove the numbering in the body texts. Please help. 

Although I was able to delete after downloading into word, just not in Wdesk.

    Welcome to the Community Ziyi Zou,
    Are you backspacing in the footnote or in the text were the footnote is referenced? If the footnote reference still exist in the document body, that's where it needs to be deleted from.
