Copy a Control
CompletadaI would like to be able to make a copy certain controls so that I can create parent child relationships. Each child would be an exact duplicate of the copied control. but would relate to a difference functional group so that each group can be tested separately. I don't want to manually retype 172 controls. Any way to copy existing controls and the change only a few fields?

Here to provide a long overdue update! As of 2023, you no longer need to wait for your CSM or PSM to perform a data import. There are now two ways to duplicate controls directly in the platform:
Option 1 — Duplicate individually:
- Navigate to the Data Experience and open the control record
- Use the Duplicate button to create an exact copy of that control
- You can then update only the fields that differ (e.g., functional group)Option 2 — Bulk Duplicate:
- In the Data Experience, select multiple controls using the checkboxes
- A Duplicate option becomes available in the toolbar
- This is the recommended approach for your use case of copying 172 controls at once!Note: Duplicated controls are created as new, independent records. You can then edit the relevant fields (e.g., functional group) on each copy. Parent-child relationships can be set up separately once the duplicates are created.
Still need a large-scale import?
If you prefer to manage bulk field changes via spreadsheet, a PSM can still assist with a report-based import.
Hope this update helps — this was a long time coming!Have you contacted your CSM to find out if they run a data import for you. Wondering if you copy the data in Excel if it can imported.
0Thanks for the response. Yes I know I can work with the CSM to do it. I don't want to have to wait for the CSM to do it each time I need a copy of a control or a set of controls. Seems like this should be something that users should be able to manage themselves. It becomes a bottle neck when managing testing processes.

0Donna is correct here, you CSM could perform a data import would possibly work for a large number of controls you would want copied. Otherwise at this time we do not have a direct way in the Database to copy control/data record and you would need to manually create the copied controls.
I will say that this functionality is high on the list of features to add in and I've connected your requests with this feature. In the meantime, let me know what questions you have or if you need anything else. Thanks as always and have a great day!
0Hi Rebecca!
Just wanted to keep you apprised that the ability to copy a control is now on the product roadmap and with any luck will be here in 2021. We'll keep you updated as we get a more definite timeline, but wanted to share the good news.
