Create a chart from a specific Table in Reports

My report displays one control per row, with multiple assertions collapsed into a single cell. I created a separate table that expands those assertions into individual rows (one row per assertion). I would like to build a chart showing the total count of assertions based on the expanded table. However, when creating the chart, it appears to use the original report structure, where assertions remain collapsed in a single cell. How can I build the chart using the expanded table data so that each assertion is counted individually?

    This is a known behavior in Workiva. When you create a chart view directly from report data that has collapsed columns, Workiva pulls the data in its collapsed form—which causes multiple assertions contained in a single cell to be counted together rather than individually.

    To build your chart using the expanded assertion counts, you can generate the chart view directly from the expanded table rather than the report itself. Here is the workaround:

    1. Locate your expanded table in the report’s left outline panel (the table where assertions are separated into individual rows).

    2. Right-click the table in the left outline panel and select Create chart from table.

    3. Connect this new chart to your destination spreadsheet to pull in the individual, expanded assertion counts.

    Because the chart references the expanded table structure rather than the collapsed report view, each assertion will be recognized and counted as an individual item. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for clarifying.

    I'm a bit confused by the spreadsheet connection step, as the issue seems to occur earlier in the process. The chart itself appears to be pulling the underlying collapsed assertion field rather than the expanded row-level table structure.

    Even when I create the chart directly from the expanded table, controls with multiple assertions are still counted as a single combined value.

    Can you confirm whether report charts support aggregation based on expanded table rows, or if they always reference the underlying source field values? If this is a limitation, is there another way to chart multi-select assertion data so each assertion is counted individually?
