Create a copy and rollforward attachments and binders
When rolling forward and copying a folder (i.e. interim period), is there a way to keep the attachment labels in place as placeholders where we can upload new attachments or does selecting attachments keep the attachments from the previous period?
Also, when we copy a binder (i.e. interim period) as part of copying the folder, what is maintained? Is it placeholders or the previous files?
Thank you

Hi Jill Yaspan,
Unfortunately, there is no direct way to carry forward attachment placeholders without the actual files. When you select "Attachments" during the copy/roll forward, the actual attachment files from the prior period are copied — not empty placeholders. The recommended workaround is:
- Roll forward with attachments selected (the copy also automatically unlocks any locked attachments — saving a step)
- After the copy, open the attachments panel in the new file
- Manually select "Revert to Placeholder" for each attachment you want to clear
This leaves all the attachment labels/references intact as placeholders, ready for new files to be uploaded. For a typical set of ~20 support files, this process takes under 2 minutes.Note: When copying, Comments, Outline Labels, and Attachments are a bundle — it's all or nothing. You cannot select attachments alone without also including comments and outline labels.
To answer your second question, when a binder is copied as part of a folder roll forward, it brings over the previous period's files — not empty placeholders. The copy maintains:- Original permission settings
- File & folder structure
- Links (based on your link settings — recommend "Create copies of all source files")
