96DPI PDF not outputing images at correct size
We have a 163 page document with SVG images. The SVG's include 300dpi photos in order to output a high quality offset print at the end of the project.
When we output a pdf with a image resolution of 96dpi a 100MB file is created. This can not be emailed.
What can we do to output a pdf with a smaller file size (~20MB) directly from Workiva? Note that we do not want to convert the SVG's to PNG's as this would comprises the quality of any vector artwork.

Hi Glyn Szasz,
To reduce the file size of your PDF while maintaining the quality of vector artwork and avoiding conversion of SVGs to PNGs, you can try the following steps:1. Reduce Image Resolution: Use the "Reduce Image Resolution" option in the advanced settings of the PDF export. This will downscale the pixels per inch (PPI) of your images, which can significantly reduce the file size without affecting vector graphics.2. Uncheck Rasterize SVGs: Ensure that the "Rasterize SVGs" option is unchecked in the advanced settings of the Export Options modal. This will preserve the vector quality of your SVGs in the PDF.3. Optimize Embedded Fonts: Review the font embedding in your SVGs to ensure they are optimized. This can help reduce the overall file siz.4. Document Health Check: Use the document health check feature to identify any unusually large images or elements contributing to file size bloat. Replace or optimize these elements as needed.5. Advanced Export Options: If you are using Designed Reporting workspaces, additional export options may be available. If these steps do not achieve the desired file size, please do let me know. I can connect you with one of our Support Engineers for further assistance!0Thanks for the reply Isabel. See my comments below.
1 - We have been setting the Image Resolution to be 96DPI and still get a 100MB PDF file. Images within the resulting PDF all seem to have their original resolution and not the desired 96DPI.
2- "Convert SVG to PNG" is not ticked when exporting. Do not see a "Rasterize SVGs" option within the advanced options. The 100MB PDF file created maintains the vector artwork.
3 - The SVG's that we upload into Workiva do not contain any fonts. Any type/font is outlined in Illustrator upon export to SVG.
4 - A document Health check shows no Image issues or any mentions of file size bloat.
5 - Not sure what the additional export options would be.
Note that we are exporting the PDF using the Save as icon under the File tab.
Unfortunately I do not seem to be able to get the PDF file size down directly within Workiva. I can get the file size down (8MB without rasterising the embedded vector's) by opening the 101MB PDF in Acrobat and exporting an Optiimized PDF. This is not a solution that we can suggest to our clients. We are hoping that there would be a one-step solution for this.
0Hi Glyn Szasz,
Thanks for taking a shot at the above steps! I'm going to create a Support Ticket for you so our team can take a deeper dive and see if there's a more efficient solution. Hang tight!
